Sunday Drive

The Propulsions need to download a new version of their saucer's dashboard operating system. Their test drive to Mars is complicated by the new dashboard, and they end up going to Venus and Saturn before finally landing on Mars...or so they think.
  • An Aesop: Sometimes mistakes can lead to great discoveries.
  • Blunt "Yes": Even the usually cheerful Jet gets irritated with the tech support robot, and after it asks the family if the saucer is there, Jet yells "YES!!! We're calling from it!"
  • Bottle Episode: Most of Part 1 takes place inside the saucer.
  • Cactus Cushion: Jet mistakes a cactus for a Martian, and tries to make friends with it. He gives it a fist bump, but gets pricked by the cactus' thorns in the process.
  • Call-Back: Celery is excited to go back to Valles Marineris and calls it "the grandest canyon."
  • Cartoon Juggling: The shower variant is used when Carrot and Jet juggle while they wait for the new software to finish downloading.
  • Disco Sucks: Celery's reaction to the disco hold music:
Celery: This machine-made music is the opposite of enjoyable.
  • Face Palm: The Propulsions all do epic facepalms when the tech support robot asks them if the saucer is there, right after asking them if they are inside the saucer.
  • Funny Phone Misunderstanding:
Celery: Please download the new dashboard software.
Tech Support: Did you say 'please clownfold the blue surfboard dishware?'
  • "Good Luck" Gesture: Sunspot crosses his fingers and ears in hopes that the saucer will go to Mars.
  • Gratuitous Disco Sequence: There's a button on the new dashboard that enables disco lights, of all things, leading to a moment where the Propulsions disco dance.
  • Gratuitous French: Celery briefly practices French and says "Allons à Mars", which is French for "Let's go to Mars".
  • Inherently Funny Words: The Propulsions think that 'desert' is a funny Earth word. Jet thinks the same of 'lizard' and 'cactus'.
  • Multi-Part Episode: The first two-part episode in production order, although the premise is more mundane than the other two-parters.
  • Not Where They Thought: Jet, Celery, and Carrot go to a desert and mistake it for Mars. They get suspicious once they see a lizard and plants in the area, and Jet realizes it's Earth when he notices that the air is still breathable.
  • Rhymes on a Dime:
So long Earth / With your deserts and cars / The Propulsion family / Is off to Mars!
  • Running Gag: Carrot dancing around to the hold music, which everyone else hates.
  • Security Cling: Jet jumps into Sunspot's arms at one point.
  • Scary Shadow Fakeout: Jet sees a menacing shadow and thinks that it's an organic life form on Mars. It was actually just Sunspot making shadow puppets.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: Celery groans when the weekend tech support robot is called to assist the Propulsions. And her misgivings are correct, because the robot keeps asking stupid questions and mishearing things.
  • Trailers Always Spoil: The official episode description spoiled that that the Propulsions weren't on Mars, but an Earth desert.
  • Wiper Start: After the new software gets downloaded, Celery pushes the button meant to activate interstellar overdrive, but it ends up starting the windshield wipers instead.
  • Written-In Absence: The Propulsions try to contact Face 9000 for help with the saucer dashboard software, they don't get an answer. Carrot explains that Face is at a "Face family reunion." Luckily, he returns at the end of the episode.
