Recap / Power Rangers Jungle Fury S1E22 Arise the Crystal Eyes

Go To

In a team meeting, RJ reveals that 5 crystal eyes are public knowledge thanks to Dr. Sylvia Jennings. To keep them from Dai Shi's forces, the rangers must protect the eyes and keep them away for at least 24 hours until after the moonlight fades away.

Meanwhile, after gaining a powerup from the nexus, Dai Shi regains his throne, but things aren't settled in the forces of evil yet, as the overlords and Dai Shi also have interest in claiming the remaining Crystal eyes.

Tropes

  • Adaptation Explanation Extrication: Casey having the power to hold a fight with Jarrod and beat Grizzaka may seem like a blatant case of Strong as They Need to Be, in Gekirangers, the rangers had managed to unlock a new power-up that wasn't shown in the American version.
  • Bad Boss: Grizzaka is so enraged by the other crystal eyes still being missing that he tries to take it out on Jellica's hide. Dai Shi lampshades this.
  • Big "WHAT?!": Grizzaka when Dai Shi demonstrates increased power.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: Casey's attempt to help one person in immediate danger allows Camille to get away with the crystal eyes and endanger countless more. Camille even mocks this as the perfect distraction.
  • Disc-One Final Boss: Grizzaka.
  • The End... Or Is It?: Jellica has the other three crystal eyes and intends to use them.
  • Evil vs. Evil: Dai Shi returns to take back his throne and... Grizzaka just leaves to go fight the Rangers. Both villains recognize there's no guarantee of winning a fight now, so they're focused on getting a definitive edge: Grizzaka intends to cause a panic to gain more power, while Dai Shi learns of the crystal eyes and schemes to claim them. Of course, Dai Shi is more than okay with the Rangers destroying his arch-rival for him.
  • Karmic Jackpot: Casey helping Dr. Jennings causes some problems immediately, but it later results in her giving the crystal eyes to him for safekeeping. RJ concedes his instincts may've been right all along, as well as lucky.
  • Little "No": Casey's reaction to how his own actions have led to Dai Shi getting his hands on the crystal eyes.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: Jellica's attempt to get the briefcase and openly laughing about it distract Dai Shi from fighting Casey. It ultimately gives Casey the window to grab the briefcase and run.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: Dai Shi and Grizzaka leave the other be simply because there's no point in a fight they can't be sure they'll actually win.
  • Skewed Priorities: Casey expresses concern about Dr. Jennings being in danger when the villains come looking for the crystal eyes. RJ reminds him that everyone is danger if the villains get the crystal eyes and urges him to stay focused on that.
  • Smug Super: Throughout the battle, Grizzaka arrogantly boasts how he is the strongest fighter there is and always will. In the end, the rangers show him where he stands in the pecking order.
  • So Last Season: Camille's opinions on dinosaurs. It may also be a jab at previous seasons involving dinosaurs.
  • This Cannot Be!: Grizzaka just before he blows up.
  • Villain Forgot to Level Grind:
    • Grizakka loses the advantage he has against Dai Shi when it turns out that he already learned the Zocato, he then tries to defy this, getting up enough fear for a rematch, but dies before doing so.
    • Jellica who in her introduction could maintain an even fight with Dai Shi, here she is defeated with an energy ball.
  • We Meet Again: Grizzaka to the Rangers.
