Recap / Power Rangers Cosmic Fury E 8 Changing Sides

Go To

With Pine Ridge liberated, the Rangers begin a plan to get Ollie back. And it might require the help of some unlikely allies.

Episode Tropes:

  • Brief Accent Imitation: Izzy puts on a New Zealand accent and says "Kia ora, mates" after teleporting back from the country with Fern. Funnily enough, this "fake accent" is closer to Tessa Rao's natural speaking voice.
  • Brought Down to Normal: The gist of the plan to break the spell on Ollie. Dr. Akana's theory is that her son is being controlled through his poisoned Ranger powers. Thus, if they can destroy his powers, Ollie will be in command of his own mind once more. Mucus and Slyther successfully destroy the Tricera Statue, depowering Ollie, but he still acts evil afterwards, to Mucus and Slyther's horror.
  • The Bus Came Back: Slyther and Mucus return after going into hiding after the events of Dino Fury.
  • Call-Back: Mucus was forced to use one of Hexcurio's wish charms to become a human.
  • The Ditz: All four Rafkonians use their powers to read Squillia's mind, and find that while her body might've been present at Zedd's planning meetings, her brain was elsewhere.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: Mucus hates her human form and wishes she were her true self. Zayto even uses his powers to transform Mucus back to her Sporix form, stating "Nobody should have to feel they don’t belong in their body." It sounds more like an analogy of Zayto helping a transgender person come into their new gender. Simon Bennett confirms that it was intended as a transgender allegory.
  • Gave Up Too Soon: A minor version. A young girl runs out of Aiyon's café when she assumes she won't get a flargon cake. If she stayed longer, she would've seen Aiyon give the recipe to her mother to make at home. However this ends up benefiting Aiyon, as following her leads him to Mucus and Slyther.
  • Gilligan Cut: After running into Mucus and Slyther, Aiyon declares "I just had the best idea ever!" Jump to the Rangers aiming weapons at the duo and Izzy yelling "this is the worst idea ever!"
  • Heel–Face Turn: Much to the shock of the Rangers and Tarrick, Slyther and Mucus managed to find redemption as travelling circus folk and find actual fun in their new lives.
  • Kill and Replace: Once Squillia's down, Slyther impersonates her to get into Zedd's base on Eltar.
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: The Rangers subject Bajillia and Squillia to one, killing Squillia entirely. Bajillia... not so much.
  • Pet the Dog:
    • Slyther and Mucus cheer up the crowd with their performance with the latter noting how sad the girl looks, which causes Slyther to put up a special act with his shapeshifting and once that works, he tells the girl and her mother that her smile is enough payment.
    • Zayto uses his magic to reverse the wish charm and restore Mucus to her fungal monster-like form as she clearly hates her new identity.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: A girl who wanted to eat a Flargon Cake runs off when it's assumed that she won't get it. When Aiyon follows her, she's watching a magic show hosted by Mucus and Slyther, who would become important in the final third of the show.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Nobody, especially not Tarrick (who used to be their boss) is overly fond of working with Slyther and Mucus given their history with the team. Slyther and Mucus, for their part, do their part without issue.
  • Tempting Fate: After putting the bomb on the statue, Slyther remarks that he's glad it didn't have an alarm. Said alarm goes off before he gets to finish the sentence.
  • Your Princess Is in Another Castle!: Slyther and Mucus do manage to destroy the Tricera Statue, thus depowering Ollie... but it apparently doesn't de-evil him, and they're captured.
