Recap / Power Rangers Cosmic Fury E 9 Master Plan

Go To

With time running out, the Rangers go to Eltar to save Ollie and stop Lord Zedd from using the Morphin Masters' energies.

Episode Tropes:

  • Already Done for You: With Master Zedd too powerful and all their Zords obliterated, Amelia and Ollie plan to use the Master Captivator to seal Zedd away. However, before they can start the plan, Scrozzle comes in and does it for them as part of the true master plan.
  • Big Damn Hug: Ollie and Amelia share a tender embrace set to swelling romantic music once his chains are broken. His voice cracks slightly when she confirms that she still loves him.
  • Brick Joke: In Episode 4, Zedd yelled at Inkworth that his requested Z-shaped ice cubes look like N's. Now, Fern and Izzy note that the giant "Z" that he has emblazoned into a mountainside looks more like an N.
  • Call-Back:
    • Ollie recalls the team's fight with the Nemesis Beast in the Dino Fury finale, and the incident with the balloon and hyper arrow in "Cut Off".
    • As the superpowered Master Zedd destroys the Rangers' Zords with glee, he remarks "If Dark Specter could see me now."
    • Javi says that they have no choice and it is "time to escalate" when he summons the Zords, referencing the second of Zordon's three rules for Power Rangers: never escalate a fight unless forced.
    • Zordon's energy wave is mentioned with Bajilla insisting her wave is different due to it destroying good rather than evil.
  • Call-Forward: Billy mentions that they've had to take all of the alien civilians to New Tech City, the setting for SPD.
  • Cliffhanger: The episode ends with Zentinels pointing their weapons at Amelia, Javi, Izzy, Fern, and Ollie, all while Bajillia is counting down before she destroys the energy tube where Zedd is trapped in.
  • Comically Missing the Point: After absorbing the powers of the Morphin' Masters, Zedd demonstrates his new power by blasting a giant "Z" into the side of a mountain. Izzy and Fern's first reaction is to comment that it looks more like a giant "N" from a certain angle.
Zedd: (annoyed) "The point is I am SUPREME!"
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Master Zedd uses his new powers to obliterate the Rangers' entire Zord fleet without breaking a sweat.
  • Double-Meaning Title: The title represents the master plan about Zedd wanting to be a Morphin' Master. However, it also and truly refers to Bajillia's secret master plan to overthrow Zedd and wipe out all heroes in the universe in one go.
  • Pretend to Be Brainwashed: Ollie has been doing this since the final minutes of last episode. It turns out that destroying the Tricera Statue did remove Lord Zedd's mind control over him, but he was only pretending it didn't work so he could get Zedd to spare Slyther and Mucus and warn his friends about Zedd's plan to make himself into a Morphin Master.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Zayto uses the last of his magic to protect everyone from a bomb when they have no way of exiting the tower.
  • Instantly Proven Wrong: When the Zentinels pick up the Rangers' dropped Cosmic Blaster and point it at them, Amelia assures Izzy that there's no way they can actually use it. Seconds later, the Zentinels blast the Rangers with it, causing them to demorph.
    Fern: They totally used it.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: While restrained, Ollie takes a moment to regret his actions as Zedd's minion, fearing that Amelia and the others will never forgive him.
  • Oh, Crap!: The Rangers' reaction when Bajillia reveals her plan to sacrifice Zedd in order to wipe out all good in the universe.
  • The Reveal: Bajillia's entire plan is a mirror version of Zordon's death: a superpowered Lord Zedd is stored in an energy tube, which is then shattered to destroy all good in the universe. Bajillia would then profit from the endless wars that follow.
