"That Petal Blizzard is certainly poetry in motion. Flurries of red and pink that capture the eye whenever they go. A perfect mixture of grace and strength."
Wallace, commentating on May's Venasaur schooling Aaron's Skarmory

Their predictions in the previous chapter come true. May does indeed meet Aaron in the Wallace Cup — in that the quarterfinals to be exact. This turn of events is predicated by Ian's unfortunate elimination in the Appeal Rounds as well as Ash's loss against Kyle. But the real show is, of course, May vs. Aaron. The two brunette are raring to go and send out Venasaur and Skarmory. Venasaur wows the audience with storms and flowers while Skarmory rules the sky with grace and power. However, in the end, May outdoes Dawn and easily hands Aaron his first on-screen defeat. After packing up, he's ready to leave and get back to work, but Ash and the gang encourage him to stay and watch the rest of the Wallace Cup. Right after a cup of coffee.

This chapter contains examples of:

  • Do a Barrel Roll: Aaron's Skarmory is capable of some really acrobatic maneuvers, such as barrel rolls, shuttle loops, and aileron rolls.
  • Epic Fail: Ian gets knocked out at the Appeal Round. Just like Ursula. Ouch.
  • Foregone Conclusion: Dawn wins the Wallace Cup by beating May in the finals. There's no way Aaron is supposed to win. He and Skarmory put on a good show, but May and Venasaur were simply better.
  • Underestimating Badassery: You'd think Aaron would know better.
Aaron: A Grass/Poison type pitted against a Steel/Flying type. What are you trying to prove?
May: (innocently) Oh, nothing. *proceeds to beat him handily*
  • The Worf Effect: Retroactively, May beating Aaron makes her seem even more of a threat to Dawn in the Wallace Cup finals.
