Go To

The battle against Team Shadow in the Crystal Empire reaches its conclusion! As the heroes fight to keep the artifacts out of the clutches of Chrysalis and her Team Shadow grunts, Cadance attempts to override the virus corrupting Androrg and the Guardroid. But can they stop Chrysalis from getting what she came for with Sombra sabotaging them in secret?

  • Big "NO!": Chrysalis lets out a "NOOOOOOOOOO!" when she sees the relics they were after were not in the cases they stole.
  • Break the Haughty: Chrysalis loses her arrogance and is left cowering before Sombra when she reports her failure to him.
  • Fakin' MacGuffin: The suitcases everyone was fighting over didn't contain the relics Team Shadow was after. The relics were hiden inside the temple the whole time, and the cases were just a distraction to buy Cadance time to remove the virus. When Chrysalis sucessfully steals the cases, she discovers to her horror that they are both empty, except for a piece of paper that showed a cartoon sketch of Shining sticking his tongue out and a message reading 'fooled ya'.
  • False Friend: Sombra attempts to sabotage everyone's efforts throughtout Team Shadow's attack. He lied about not having his Tyrandark with him, tried to pass off the cases to one of his grunts and make it look like he was robbed after they trust him with them during the attack, and afterwards he tries to make one last subtle attempt at the relics by offering to keep them in one of the vaults in his company, under the pretense they will be safe from Team Shadow there. Once he leaves the Crystal Empire and is out of sight of everyone, his friendly smile vanishes and he has Chrysalis report her failure to him.
  • Foe Romance Subtext: Chrysalis flirts a bit with her enemies during the battle. When Shining Armor chases her and manages to corner her, she tells him that if he weren't already married she'd think he had a thing for her, causing him to briefly cringe at the implication, and when she manages to escape from him by hoping onto a nearby Warp Tile, she mockingly waves goodbye to him and quickly laughs out "Later handsome!" to him. During the battle over the cases in the climax, when Flash loses his grip on one of them and it lands in her hands, Chrysalis mockingly thanks Flash for the "thoughtful" gift.
  • Hostage For Macguffin: Chrysalis pretends to hold Sombra hostage and threaten his life to get the others to hand over the cases. But Shining Armor interrupts before she can get the cases.
  • I Lied: It is revealed that Sombra lied in the previous chapter about not having any of his Pokémon when he uses his Tyrandark to defend himself. But nobody was around him at the time so his secret is safe.
  • Out-Gambitted: Shining Armor and Cadance do this to Team Shadow. Everyone was focused fighting over the briefcases they thought contained the relics, but they were never in the cases, because Shining Armor and Cadance secretly hid them away in another part of the temple. The cases were empty the whole time, and the fighting was just meant to buy time for Cadance to undo the virus and get Androrg and the Guardroid back on their side so Team Shadow couldn't come back after realizing they were tricked. This also unknowingly countered Sombra's attempts at sabatoge by trying to secretly pass the cases to his grunts.
  • The Reveal: Shining Armor reveals he has a Lokelpie and Oaking on his team, which he uses against Chrysalis.
  • Terms of Endangerment: Chrtsalis calls Shining Armor "handsome" before escaping from him.
