Recap / Peg Plus Cat S 1 E 22 The Birthday Present Problem

Go To

We open on our protagonists asleep in bed. Peg wakes up, then wakes Cat up with her fourth-wall-breaking introduction. She shares that her favourite aspect of mornings is how "full of possibilities" they are: you never know what you'll do or who you'll meet. Then, she sees Cat (who she accidentally knocked into her clothes hamper previously) accidentally wearing some of her fancy clothes. This scares her, and she screams, prompting him to scream, then they both accuse the other of scaring them in succession.

After a bit of yelling, Peg and Cat get over their fright and she explains that he's not a morning person. Peg then shows Cat her first calendar, which her mother made. He asks what the red X's are for, and she explains that they come from her crossing off the days. She then notices that there are no boxes left and becomes a bit nervous at the prospect of losing track of the days, but thankfully Cat knocks away the paper revealing the next page.

Peg then sees a drawing of her mother and a birthday cake on today's calendar box. Cat is keen on the idea of cake, but Peg is apprehensive because this implies that it's her mother's birthday and they still haven't gotten her a present.

Cat starts singing about possible gifts: a picture of him, a sculpture of him, a card, a bracelet, bubbles, a garden gnome, a homemade mug, or a painting of a lake. Peg then exclaims, "Rocks!", right before Cat suggests cake. As it turns out, she always sees rocks in cool places, so she just needs to find thirty of them: one for each year.

With the help of Ramone and his jetpack, Peg and Cat set off. Peg explains that she's planning to go to six places, so Ramone says that for thirty rocks she needs to find five in each place. Thankfully, he also has the "robot hands" app, which they can use for picking up rocks.

First, Peg, Cat, and Ramone pick up five rocks on an island, where the pirates are collecting fruit. Then, they pick up five more in a cold, snowy place. Then, they go back in time to the time of the dinosaurs and collect five more. Next, they go to space and pick up five more. And then they pick up five more at that place were the mermaid and dragon live. Finally, they go to the top of the beanstalk and collect five other rocks.

They go back to Peg's house, and Ramone leaves, but unfortunately Peg's mother's alarm goes off, startling Peg into dropping, and breaking, a rock. They consider giving up Peg's lucky marble, since that's similar to a rock, and Peg almost does, but then Cat remembers a rock he found recently and hid outside the window. Thus, they have thirty rocks after all, but the universe doesn't seem to want Peg not to freak out, so another problem arises: they need to write a 30 on the box but have forgotten what it looks like.

Luckily, after the usual backwards counting, Peg sees Cat's tail brushing against the calendar and realises that the number is on the calendar. So, they write the number, then Peg's mother comes in and she wishes her a happy birthday and gives the present. Her mother then asks where she got them from, prompting Peg to break into song.
