Tropes

  • A Friend in Need: After Sorawo saved Toriko from death in File 4, Toriko returns the favour and saves Sorawo before she is killed.
  • And I Must Scream: Runa gets her jaw half ripped off by Satsuki.
  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other: Especially in the case of Kozakura who normally treats Sorawo and Toriko somewhat harshly.
    • Both of them help Kozakura who keeps getting separated from them and taken to other locations.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Toriko finally gets to see Satsuki again. Unfortunately, it doesn't go well.
  • Body Horror: The Forth Kinds in this file are extremely disfigured.
  • Brown Note Being: The cultists refuse to use one of the Fourth Kinds as they say that "#5 kills too often."
  • The Chosen Many: Sorawo and Toriko are no longer the only ones with powers from the Otherside, who can live relatively normal lives. Unfortunately, this means that they are pulled into more hijinks.
  • Claimed by the Supernatural: Runa is the newest addition of people with powers from the Otherside.
  • Compelling Voice: Runa Urumi, the cult leader obsessed with Satsuki Uruma, has this ability and uses it to gather and brainwash loyal cultists. She also uses it to interrogate Kozakura and forcibly put Sorawo to sleep. When Sorawo views it with her Magical Eye, it manifests as some kind of tentacle that attaches to the target, which Toriko can remove to destroy the voice's hold on the victim.
  • Conditioned to Accept Horror: While she's not completely calm about it, Sorawo does pretty well keeping a level head while she is kidnapped due to her 'anti-cult' mode.
  • The Corrupter: While it's not known what exactly Satsuki does to Runa through the video, it still results in Runa gaining the voice ability.
  • Disc-One Final Dungeon: Final file of Volume 3.
  • Everyone Can See It: After Sorawo shouts at Runa to leave Toriko out of her plans (a move that shocks Runa and even Kozakura), Runa figures out that they are partners. Sorawo doesn't contest this as she is Toriko's partner in crime/accomplice, but Runa clearly thought that they are romantic partners.
  • Evil Is Not a Toy: Runa Urumi worships Satsuki as god and wishes to summon her to Japan and meet her, which she eventually partially managed by summoning and meeting her in the Otherside (since the instruction required to do so can't be understood on Earth without Sorawo, and Sorawo won't cooperate). The end result, however, is getting her mother killed for her trouble.
  • Eye Scream: this is also the fate of Runa's mother: "Satsuki" drives both her thumbs into her eye sockets, holding them there until she dies.
  • Hates Being Touched: Kozakura nearly shouts at Sorawo when she pats her on the head to calm her down. She catches herself before she can lay into the person trying to save her life.
  • Hidden Depths: Kozakura, as discussed in File 4, is terrible at dealing with scary situations. However, when she sees that Sorawo, of all people, is terrified after Runa threatens to gouge her eye out, Kozakura immediately tells Runa to leave Sorawo alone and lies that she knows nothing about Satsuki.
  • Horrible Judge of Character: Toriko, knowing that Satsuki was manipulating her, still acts like she is head over heels for her and disregards the obvious danger.
    • Toriko runs up to Satsuki and doesn't attempt to move until Sorawo tackles her to get her out of the way. Kozakura, by comparison, immediately knew that it wasn't Satsuki as she used to know her, even though she was at a further distance compared to Toriko.
  • Irony: Sorawo didn't want to tell Toriko that she has been able to see Satsuki for all this time, for fear of Toriko leaving her. Toriko finds out anyway, and while hurt that Sorawo would lie to her about something as big as this, reveals that she had an inkling Sorawo could see something she didn't want Toriko to know about (because Sorawo is a bad liar.) Toriko immediately runs over to Satsuki with no regard over the possible danger and is almost 'taken away'. Exactly the result that Sorawo was avoiding.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: While Sorawo acts like she doesn't care about anyone except Toriko, she goes to save Kozakura and (more to the point) Runa without thinking or complaining about about it too much.
  • Jumped at the Call: Toriko jumped into action, immediately calling Migiwa to help her locate Sorawo and Kozakura, even going as far as to shoot someone who was about to kill Sorawo without hesitation, when she did previously in File 6.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: Knowing that they wouldn't be able to beat Satsuki, they decide to run away.
  • Mark of the Supernatural: Runa receivers her powers from a video Satsuki made.
  • Monster of the Week: Runa Urumi, her cult and (what seems to be) Satsuki Uruma.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Sorawo didn't want to tell Toriko that she has been able to see Satsuki for a while now, Toriko finds out anyway and is angry that Sorawo wouldn't tell her. This is arguably a worse result than if Sorawo had told Toriko about Satsuki when she first saw her and tried talking her through it.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Averted, the cultish "Thank-You Woman" who worships Runa like a god turns out to be Runa's mother. However, YMMV as Runa could have used her Voice on her mother.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Basically their reaction after seeing Satsuki kill Runa's mother.
  • Snark-to-Snark Combat: Sorawo and Kozakura engage in this while they are trying to escape.
  • Too Good to Be True: The real Satsuki wouldn't have just appeared and made their lives easier, would she?
    • Toriko wouldn't have just blindly believed Sorawo's lies, especially since Toriko reveals that Sorawo isn't The Stoic after all.
  • Trauma Conga Line: Toriko sees her friends and potential love interest get kidnapped, only to get there just in time to save one of them from getting shot, shooting her first person in the process. After that, she finds out that the person she trusts most in the world has been lying to her this entire time, goes back to the person who manipulated her, only to find out it's not her, nearly getting murdered, and then nearly watching her friend get murdered too.
    • Sorawo gets kidnapped, has someone threaten to gouge out her eye, nearly gets shot to death, nearly loses the person she cares about most in the world, and nearly gets murdered herself.
  • Turn the Other Cheek: Toriko, knowing that Satsuki has probably been manipulating her all this time, runs over to her and begs her to notice her. This nearly gets her killed.
  • Wham Line: ...You can see her, huh?” Toriko said in a whisper.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: Kozakura and Sorawo are shown to care about each other.
  • You're Just Jealous: Toriko implies that she knows this is the reason Sorawo didn't tell her about Satsuki. She's not wrong.
  • Your Princess Is in Another Castle!: They find Satsuki Uruma again and this time Toriko can see her while she is of clear mind. Unfortunately, it is not her. Or at least, not how they once knew her.
