Go To

Sorawo tells Toriko she wants to stop going to the Otherside. Toriko then disappears.

Tropes

  • A Friend in Need: After Toriko disappears, Sorawo realises that Toriko probably won't last long in the Otherside by herself. This causes her to spring into action and travel into the Otherside to save Toriko after previously refusing Toriko's offer of going back into the Otherside.
  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other: After having an argument with Toriko, Sorawo goes to save her. Toriko seems surprised when Sorawo invokes this trope.
  • And I Must Scream: Downplayed: Sorawo and Kozakura become stuck in the Otherside at night. Sorawo elects to keep Kozakura safe by using her right eye to shift perspective and turn Kozakura into a tree while she goes ahead to rescue Toriko from the Doppleganger phenomena. While this does physically keep Kozakura safe, the various voices she hears, the fact that she can't move while being conscious, and various other factors scarred her quite badly before Sorawo and Toriko came back to turn her back to human. The ordeal leaves Kozakura with a fear of dark places.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Toriko goes to the Otherside to look for Satsuki. Unfortunately, while seems like she did at, it quickly becomes apparent that it is NOT Satsuki Uruma.
  • The Call Knows Where You Live: When Sorawo goes to Toriko's apartment, it is filled with the blue light of the Otherside.
    • This is the reason that Sorawo and Kozakura get sucked into the Otherside.
  • Changed My Mind, Kid: After receiving radio silence from Toriko after their lunch together, she goes to check on her and resolves to save her, despite how scared she is.
  • Disc-One Final Dungeon: This is the last file of Volume One. They also discover Satsuki, except it's not.
  • Doppelganger: Sorawo has one that reflects her insecurities and unhealthy attachment to Toriko.
  • Degraded Boss: Sorawo lampshades this when she and Kozakura face off with four kunekunes, and asks if they're trying to swarm her now that she has defeated them before.
  • The Drag-Along: Kozakura REALLY did not want to go back into the Otherside. Not that she had a choice.
  • Eating the Eye Candy: Sorawo gets distracted by Toriko's beauty when she has lunch with her.
  • Expospeak Gag: Kozakura explains why she doesn't like doing field work in the Otherside as: fear tolerance is a physiological issue, namely the length of activation sequence of serotonin transporter gene: the longer they are, the more serotonin is produced, thus the less the fear signal will affect amygdala. She has short serotonin transporter gene, or: she's a scaredy-cat.
  • Hates Being Touched: Korakuza is not amused by the offer of a hug from Sorawo. She also tells Sorawo to get off of her when she nearly faints and slumps over onto Kozakura.
  • Hyperspace Is a Scary Place: Interstitial space is a space between the normal world and the Otherside that, depending on the entrance used, the user will pass through for some time before arriving at their destination, and it can be a pretty unpleasant place. It makes it's first named appearance in this file.
  • Irony: Sorawo doesn't want to go back into the Otherside due to being scared, yet she gets pulled right back into the Otherside and has to face her fears anyway.
  • "Leave Your Quest" Test: Has a chance to leave it all behind, however, when she worries about Toriko, she decides to go straight back into the Otherside to save her.
  • Monster of the Week: Multiple this time. The Time-Space Man, the Three Old Ladies, the Kunekunes and the Windmill Woman.
  • Only in It for the Money: Toriko thinks this is the case when Sorawo tells her that she doesn't want to go into the Otherside anymore. Her "solution" to this is to offer Sorawo her share of the money they make from going into the Otherside. She seems to be at a loss when Sorawo rejects this and gets angry at her, as she doesn't understand why Sorawo wouldn't want to go back.
  • Other Me Annoys Me: She's disgusted by the presence of her Doppelganger and the look on her face. Understandable as it's indicative of all the things Sorawo doesn't like about herself.
  • Refusal of the Call: Both Sorawo and Kozakura do this when asked to go into the Otherside. Unfortunately, when the call knows where you live you haven't really got a choice.
  • Please, Don't Leave Me: While she doesn't say this outright, Toriko implies this when asking Sorawo to go back into the Otherside with her.
  • Self-Fulfilling Prophecy: Refuses to go back into the Otherside with Toriko and suggests that Toriko should give up on Satsuki because odds are Satsuki is dead and they will end up dead too if they keep going back. Toriko, predictably, refuses to do this and goes back into the Otherside by herself. Sorawo decides to go into the Otherside to save Toriko by herself, before realising that was a dumb idea and asks Kozakura to go with her, before they both get sucked in without their consent. This whole debacle nearly causes Toriko's death and could have killed Sorawo and Kozakura if they didn't have Kozakura's shot-gun. This could have been avoided if Sorawo just went into the Otherside with Toriko or if Sorawo effectively communicated her fears with Toriko, who probably would have understood and figured out a comprise, instead of taking it as harshly as she did.
  • Sensing You Are Outmatched: After nearly dying 3 times in the Otherside, Sorawo changes her mind about traveling into the Otherside.
  • Set Right What Once Went Wrong: Seems to be her basis for going to Toriko's apartment, and then going to the Otherside.
  • Shotguns Are Just Better: Kozakura's Remington M870 is equipped with a GATOR shotgun spreader which changes the shot pattern to a horizontal fan. This allows her to try to at least hit something even when she goes into full panic and start shooting things with her eyes closed. This is used for good effect in an encounter against four kunekunes.
  • Small Girl, Big Gun: Due to her short height, Kozakura wielding a Remington M870 does give this impression.
  • 10-Minute Retirement: For Sorawo. As the name suggests, this doesn't last.
  • Title Drop: Partly. Sorawo calls the man who speaks with her the "Time-Space Man".
  • Too Good to Be True: It seemed too good to be true when Toriko found Satsuki.
  • With a Foot on the Bus: Toriko spends most of the episode/file in the Otherside. When we finally see her again, she's under some kind of trance and about to commit suicide.
  • Your Princess Is in Another Castle!: They finally find Satsuki Uruma, except it's not her.
