Sarah joins forces with an unlikely and untrustworthy ally, following a trail of clues that she hopes will lead her to the origins of the clone experiment. Cosima and Delphine make a discovery that could prove to be the key to treating her illness. Alison finds herself in unsavory company at rehab.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Ascended Extra: Scott, one of Cosima's friends from university who only appeared a few times, gets a job at Dyad and becomes an important part of their research team.
  • Bar Brawl: Helena starts one after a rude bar patron tries to stop her and Jesse's make out session.
  • Big Damn Kiss: Helena and Jesse, a local bar patron she had been hanging out with.
  • The Bus Came Back: Vic joins Alison in rehab.
  • Call-Back: Helena notices the scars on Gracie's lips from her punishment and recalls the same thing being done to her.
    • Scott brings up the various samples of DNA Cosima asked him to study in Season One.
  • Convenient Slow Dance: Jesse and Helena get one, prior to their Bar Brawl.
  • Conveniently Unverifiable Cover Story: When Jesse asks Helena about her life, she stitches together a Frankenstein's monster of a whopper based on her fellow clones: she was a detective (like Beth), then a scientist (like Cosima), then a housewife in rehab (like Alison). Jesse is too smitten to question any of it.
  • First-Name Basis: Sarah calls Peckham "Ethan" during her rant at the end of the episode.
  • Freudian Threat: Alison tells Donnie that if he comes back to her rehab clinic without her kids, she'll "cut off his dangly balls".
  • Genre Savvy: Scott figures out that Cosima is working with clones from the various samples of DNA she gave him to study. He does not, however, know that Cosima is one of them since he ironically asks if he could meet one of them.
  • Go-Karting with Bowser: Paul and Mark find themselves together in the same bar, share a drink, and agree not to interfere in each other's tasks (Paul retrieving Sarah for DYAD, Mark bringing Helena back to the Proletheans).
  • Heel–Faith Turn: Vic apparently became a Buddhist during his recovery. It's not clear how much of it is genuine and how much is just part of his cover.
  • Jerkass: A bar patron offers Helena a drink. When she declines, he calls her a skank and tries to hit her, so she violently twists his finger.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Jerk: Vic seems to have turned over a new leaf, except he's actually a spy for Angela. He doesn't care about helping Alison; he just wants to get his charges dropped.
  • Mama Bear: Mrs. S. tells Paul that if he wants to take Sarah, he'll have to kill her first.
  • Meet Cute: Helena and Knight in Shining Armor Jessie. She offers him her White Russian; he shares his pork rinds with her.
  • Nightmare Fuel: In-universe. Felix compares the evidence from Maggie Chen's locker to this.
  • Odd Friendship: Vic and Alison start to bond in rehab. It's all an act on his part.
  • Papa Wolf: Invoked by Sarah. She reminds Ethan Duncan that she, Cosima, and Alison are his daughters as well as Rachel is, and for that he has to help them.
  • The Reveal: Ethan Duncan and his wife Susan used science to create a family for themselves, but lost their military funding when the project was declared unethical. Instead, they looked to Leekie and the Dyad. When Leekie refused to let them raise Rachel, the Duncans threatened to expose everything. To keep them silent, Leekie started the fatal fire that killed Susan, drove Ethan into hiding, and kidnapped Rachel. Since then Ethan has been hiding with the Birdwatchers.
  • Road Trip Plot: Subverted. Sarah and Helena start off their journey as a road trip, but they're separated halfway through the episode and the road trip stops.
  • Sarcastic Confession: Alison tells Vic that she's Sarah's clone. Vic doesn't believe a word of it.
  • Shout-Out: Mrs. S is wearing a sweater with a Pussy Riot embroidery.
  • Wait Here: Sarah tells Helena to wait in the car while she investigates the church. Not surprisingly, Helena chooses to ignore her.
