- A Day in the Limelight: Aleida and Daya's past is shown with Aleida bringing Daya to summer camp, with Daya not wanting to stay, all so Aleida can have a month of partying to herself. After a month, she doesn't want to leave.
- Amicable Exes: Averted with Piper and Alex.Piper: What am I supposed to do now? It's like, we still live in the same place. It's not like I can just go take off and visit my slacker cousins in California for a few weeks while I lick my wounds and stalk her on Facebook.
- Attempted Rape: Boo and Pennsatucky drug Coates and drag him to the laundry room, intending to shove a broomstick up his ass as punishment for what he did to Penn. Neither of them can go through with it.
- Big Damn Heroes: Healy comes through for Red by giving her a couple boxes of corn after the Blacks eat her garden corn.
- Driven to Suicide: Soso steals some drugs from the hospital and attempts to overdose on them, only to be found passed out in the library by Poussey.

- Unsettling Gender-Reveal: Inverted. Sophia's attackers want to see if she still has a penis post-transitioning.
- What the Hell, Hero?: Red gives this to Taystee, Black Cindy, Janae and Poussey when they find they've been eating corn that was grown in the prison garden that was meant for a party Red was gonna throw.
- Who Names Their Kid "Dude"?: Aleida's reaction when she's told Daya made a new friend named Jordache. "Someone named their kid after pants?"
