Go To

"Brave New World" is the tenth episode of Season 3 of One Tree Hill and originally aired January 11th, 2006. The episode was written by John A Norris and directed by John Asher.

Lucas fulfils a promise he made to Peyton to help her track down Ellie, and reunites with an old friend in the process. Meanwhile, Nathan heads out of town to get answers from Deb. And Brooke launches her clothing website and in no time, has 43 orders… and not nearly enough dresses.

Contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Continuity Porn: When Brooke finds out that Lucas and Peyton have skipped town, the show has a quick flashback montage of Lucas and Peyton cheating on Brooke in the first season.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Brooke puts the Clothes Over Bro’s website online, assuming she’s going to be able to handle the business by herself. She very quickly finds herself in the position of having to fulfil 43 orders and completely out of her depth, leading to her recruiting the rest of the cheerleaders (and Mouth) to help her meet the orders.
  • Idiot Ball: Literally hours after he and Brooke finally get back together, Lucas goes on a road trip with Peyton and doesn’t bother letting Brooke know until they’ve already driven out of town - and even that requires Peyton to force him into it.
  • Insecure Love Interest: When Brooke discovers Lucas has gone on a road trip with Peyton, she immediately freaks out because the last time they did, they cheated on her.
Haley: Hey was that Lucas? Is he coming over? Cause we need all the help we can get.
Brooke: No, he's with his other girlfriend.
  • Internal Reveal: Nathan finds out that Deb was the one who set the fire at Dan Scott Motors in the Season Two finale.
  • Previously on…: The episode opens with a montage of the highlights from the first half of the season, set to “Sugar, We’re Going Down" by Fall Out Boy.
  • Put on a Bus: Deb leaves Tree Hill, finally free of Dan.
  • Remember the New Guy?: Faith, an old friend of Lucas’ who had moved away from Tree Hill before the start of the series.
  • Ship Tease: Hours after getting back together with Brooke, Lucas decides that his best course of action is to immediately take a road trip out of town with Peyton to find Ellie without even tell Brooke. When Peyton makes him notice, he points that he loves being that guy for her and promised her during the summer that he would have always been there for her, so he intends to maintain that promise.
  • Shout-Out: Peyton gushes over The Cure’s "Disintegration" album whilst talking to Ellie.
  • Titled After the Song: The title of the episode originated from the song "Brave New World" by Iron Maiden.
  • What the Hell, Hero?:
    • Faith chastises Lucas for dating Brooke, remembering how horrible she used to be when they were younger.
    • Nathan is horrified when Deb admits to starting the dealership fire in an attempt to kill Dan.
