Recap / One Hundred And One Dalmatian Street S 1 E 21 The Wow Of Miaow

Go To

Deepak moves in with the cat next door after the Dimitris mock him for his love of cats.

This episode features examples of:

  • Animal Jingoism: The Dimitris and Constantin (and to a lesser extent, Dylan) both adhere to the dogs vs. cats rivalry, much to cat admirer Deepak's dismay. Constantin does make an exception for Deepak though.
  • Break the Cutie: Deepak gets hit with this pretty hard when Dylan decides to side with the Dimitris that cats are bad, thus reducing him to tears.
  • Continuity Nod: Dylan's talent for poetry, as established in "Poetry Scam," comes back when he's easily able to compose a haiku about why cats are better than dogs at Constantin's prompting.
  • A Day in the Limelight: This episode focuses on Deepak and his decision to move in with Constantin.
  • Didn't Think This Through: While Deepak has every right to shun Dylan for his insensitive behavior and has a perfectly good reason to move into Constantin's house, he doesn't think about the consequences of leaving the Dalmatian house (or get permission from his parents to move, for that matter). After all, the pups need Deepak to calm them down - as a result of Deepak leaving, the house falls into a bigger state of chaos than ever before.
  • Foreign Culture Fetish: A non-country variant. Deepak deeply admires cats and tries to emulate them to the point where he's able to spit up a fur ball.
  • Foreshadowing: In the beginning, Deepak calms down Dawkins, Dorothy, and Dante from their troubles with ease. When he leaves, the entire house delves into chaos.
  • Hey, That's My Line!: Said word for word by Dante after Dizzy and Dee Dee scream about how the end is nigh.
  • Jerkass Ball: While they're always a bit rough, the Dimitris' treatment of Deepak in this episode is nothing short of bullying.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: While Dylan siding with the Dimitris and hurting Deepak's feelings was callous, his thoughts on cats aren't completely unjustified when you recall that Constantin has infact antagonised the Dalmatian clan before, seemingly just for the sake of it, like in one episode which revealed he had been stealing the family's mail for months.
  • Karma Houdini: The Dimitris receive no consequences for helping to drive Deepak away from home, aside from Dylan's attempt to scold them as well as Deepak shouting at them afterwards, outright disappearing from the plot when things do get chaotic for the Dalmatian household. Even at the end, Deepak lets them off the hook after they appreciate his hairball.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Oh, you made your brother upset to the point he ran away? He was one of the very few peacekeepers of your residence? Yeah, expect the chaos in your house to get even worse without him around.
  • Laser Hallway: Constantin emulates this trope with yarn as one of his and Deepak's tests for Dylan.
  • Suddenly Shouting: Deepak does this after his dramatic, tearful exit fails to get through to the Dimitris and Dylan.
Deepak: And so, with a nest full of thorns, this bird must fly!
    [Beat]
Dimitri 1: Does that mean he's off?
Deepak: Yes, that means I'm off!
  • Tell Him I'm Not Speaking to Him: Deepak does this to Dylan, with Constantin as the intermediary. When Dylan says he can hear Deepak just fine, Constantin replies they're just trying to make him feel small. And insignificant.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Dolly is quick to tell Dylan off for driving Deepak away from home, and sheds light on the stuff he does to help calm the other pups down.
    • Before that, Deepak wastes no time in calling out Dylan for siding with the Dimitris in disliking cats as well as refusing to discipline them.
Deepak: Dylan, bad things happen when good dogs do nothing. (cries) And so, with a nest full of thorns, this bird must fly!

The End of the World is Nigh

Deepak's absence causes so much disorder in the Dalmatian household, that even Dizzy and Dee Dee start using Dante's catchphrase.

How well does it match the trope?
