Recap / Olimars Alimony The Fates Are Terrible

Go To

The group lands out in the Hoshidan plains and finds themselves stationed between two opposing armies. After a failed attempt at making peace, K. Rool opts to lead the party into battle against both factions. This predictably results in the party's defeat and subsequent surrender. Hoshido retreats and Nohr takes the party captive, taking them back to the Nohrian capital as prisoners. They are granted an audience with King Garon, who decides to spare their lives so that they may fight for Nohr in its efforts to defeat Hoshido. The party agrees, having little choice in the matter, and is sent traveling alongside Crown Prince Xander, Prince Leo, and Princess Elise. It is revealed that Corrin had been devoured by Ridley, and Camilla was killed by Olimar in the battle prior.

On their journey to the Hoshidan capital, the group comes across a village that seems to be overrun with monsters. The party decides to defend the village, but upon slaying a few monsters they see that they had been deceived; they were merely normal human villagers. Leo remarks that a powerful illusion spell had been placed over them. The party laments their actions.

The group continues on to the towering mountain atop which the Hoshidan capital rests. They begin fighting their way through the top, slaying retainers before eventually coming upon Takumi atop a great wall. Both Takumi and Leo perish in the battle that ensues.

The group moves on to the capital, where Ryoma fails utterly in defeating the Nohrians. Rather than be taken prisoner, Ryoma opts to commit Seppuku; Hinoka attacks the party in rage and is subsequently taken out. The group begins to approach the castle, when they hear Azura's singing coming from above; the song is enough to break Charlie free from his trance. The party immediately grows suspicious of Iago. The party is kept overnight in the Hoshidan castle, with Iago stating that they are only to be freed upon Garon's orders.

Garon arrives the next day and orders the party's swift execution. The party prepares to fight back, but Garon sits atop the throne before the need arises; his true form as a hideous blob-like monster is revealed, prompting Xander to turn against him. After a grueling battle, the party emerges victorious, but the victory is short-lived: Ridley shows up and begins attacking the town. In addition to that, Iago has turned his ire against the group. Olimar battles Iago while the rest of the party focuses on Ridley. The party manages to successfully defeat both enemies.

With Garon dead, Xander takes the throne and decides that peace is the best option. Sakura, the sole remaining Hoshidan royal, takes the Hoshidan throne in turn. Elise begs to be allowed to go with the party, but Xander forbids it. The group returns to the airship and takes off.

  • Annoying Arrows: Averted in that Takumi's arrows are more than capable of killing a target in a single strike.
  • Brainwashed: Captain Charlie's fate when the party first arrives in Nohr.
  • Bear Hug: Elise gives Olimar one of these.
  • But Thou Must!: K. Rool tries to get Hoshido and Nohr to resolve their differences diplomatically; it fails, so he is forced to either take a side or fight both.
  • Clean Cut: Garon cleaves Azura in twain with his massive battleaxe.
  • Elemental Weapon: Raijinto crackles with electricity.
  • Human Shield: The President tries to invoke this by demanding Olimar keep the Pikmin around him.
  • I Have Your Wife: K. Rool tries to pull this on Takumi by threatening Oboro. May be subverted in that the side holding Oboro hostage are tacitly the good guys, but then again K. Rool is rather villainous regardless of which side he's affiliated with.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: Olimar invokes this when shooting Camilla's dragon with his gun; she ends up falling in such a fashion that she lands atop the blade of her axe.
  • Off with His Head!: King K. Rool pulls this on Garon, slicing the blob's head clean off with Raijinto before inserting the sword into the remaining neck hole.
  • Playing Possum: K. Rool pulls this in order to defeat Garon.
  • Requisite Royal Regalia: K. Rool is pissed when Garon takes his crown, the main symbol of the croc's King-like authority.
  • Shipped in Shackles: The party suffers this when taken prisoner by the Nohrians.
  • Suddenly Shouting: K. Rool does this when declaring his intention to battle both armies.
King K. Rool: "After careful consideration, we've decided that the best course of action for the nation of Crocodile Isle would be to... DECLARE WAR UPON HOSHIDO AND NOHR!!"
  • Suddenly Speaking: Justified in that Olimar is given the ability to verbally communicate with the authors thanks to one of Leo's spells.
  • The Enemy Weapons Are Better: King K. Rool takes a shine to Ryoma's sacred weapon, Raijinto.
