When the hot new toy trend of Whacky Jaxxyz comes to Lakewood, K.O. says goodbye to his POW Cards.
Tropes:
- Animesque: Serious Whacky Jaxxyz competitors have this look. Combined with Stylistic Suck as they look, as many people have described, like "My 1st attempt at drawing Anime in the 6th grade". K.O. and Nanini are briefly drawn in this style as well once they start winning the tournament, but return to their normal look when they decide they don't want to battle each other.
- Affectionate Parody: The episode parodies game-based Merchandise-Driven series, most obviously Yu-Gi-Oh!.
- And You Thought It Was a Game: Jack Whacky plays for keeps — losers are frozen in crystals for eternity.
- Boss Subtitles: A few more this episode, including for one of K.O.'s classmates that's been seen before:Nanini (A Kewl Classmate)Johnny (His Deal: ???)Jack Whacky (Jacklord) (Named a Game After Himself)
- Cultural Translation: Spoofed. Jack misses his mom's "jelly donuts" with a thought balloon clearly showing Japanese rice balls.
- A Day in the Limelight: Nanini, who was previously just a background character as one of K.O.'s classmates, gets much more focus here, and teams up with K.O. in the Whacky Jaxxyz Tournament and throughout the episode in the same way Dendy usually does.
- Fighting Your Friend: After K.O. and Nanini defeat all other Whacky Jaxxyz competitors in the tournament as a two-person team, Whacky tries to make the two of them do this as the "final match". Both of them pretty quickly decide they don't want to, though, and work together to free the other competitors whom Whacky crystalized.
- Graceful Loser: Johnny when K.O. and Nanini beat him in the first round of the Whacky Jaxxyz tournament, complimenting their skill and thanking them for a great game. Unfortunately, Whacky crystalizes him right after.
- Gratuitous Japanese: Johnny lets out a "yare yare" as a sigh of frustration.
- I Choose to Stay: The other players in the Shade O' Realm don't want to leave.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Johnny. He acts cocky when first telling K.O. and Nanini about the tournament, but when they beat him, he's very much a Graceful Loser about it. Later, he helps them defeat Whacky, and is the only person other besides the two of them who decides to leave the Shade O' Realm. He ends the episode playing with POW cards with K.O., Dendy, and Nanini.
