Airdate: October 3, 2012

Inspired by an entry in Captain Soto's logbook, Garmadon seeks out the Island of Darkness and plans to use it to remake Ninjago in his own image. In Ninjago City, the ninja are blindsided by a large Stone Warrior and meet Lloyd's mother, Misako.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Chekhov's Gun: The bottomless pit is used to trap the Giant Stone Warrior.
  • Mommy Had a Good Reason for Abandoning You: We find out that Lloyd's mother left him at the boarding school so she could research the legend surrounding the Green Ninja and prevent him from having to kill his father.
  • Foreshadowing: Although the revelation will not come until the second-to-last episode of Season 15, the fact that the Great Devourer's venom would bring the Stone Warrior to life, as well as the Overlord actually expecting the arrival of Garmadon (who was corrupted by the Devourer's venom), would all hint that there is some connection between the Overlord and the Great Devourer.
  • Hates Their Parent: Lloyd is not happy with Misako for abandoning him. He grows out of it by the end.
  • Knew It All Along: Misako knew from the beginning that Lloyd would be the Green Ninja. Considering Lloyd is descended from the First Spinjitzu Master, it makes quite a bit of sense that Lloyd would have his grandfather's abilities.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: After waking up, Lloyd annoyedly groans, "Is it Wednesday already?" This was a nod towards the fact that new Ninjago episodes used to air on Wednesdays.
  • Oh, Crap!: When the Giant Stone Warrior attacks the Ninja.
Jay: WHOA!!!! EXCUSE ME?! Will somebody please tell me: WHAT THE HECK IS THAT?!!
  • The Starscream: Skales finally makes his move to usurp Garmadon as Serpentine leader by pushing him out of the Rattle Copter while searching for the Island of Darkness.
