Ooh, I hope the shape of things to come is a rhombus.

Film watched: The Shape of Things to Come

The Segments:

Prologue
  • As they drive over to clean up recent damage to the Kingadome, M. Waverly and Growler are having second thoughts about their job as Boneheads. In the Simulator of Love, Emily is preparing a condiment taste-test for the 'Bots until she realizes that robots don't have taste buds.

Segment 1/Invention Exchange

  • The Roller Coaster adds high-speed thrills and wild twists and turns to your drink, or what's left in the glass once the ride's over. Max demonstrates his love for Kinga's Corn Cob Turkey Holders as he uses them to devour a whole roast turkey.

Segment 2

  • Sparks the robot is given a celebrity roast by the crew. GPC-2 gets drunk and goes on a personal rant against Crow, and Emily, as Sparks' wife, delivers a touching speech about his muteness.

Segment 3

  • On Emily's podcast, The Shape of Crimes to Come, the crew discuss the murder of Charlie Montgomery while plugging their own podcasts and pointing out conspiracy in everything.

Post-Intermission

  • Emily's podcast loses its sponsorship during the intermission when their conspiracy theories hits too close for comfort.

Segment 4

  • Emily wants to install love into the 'Bots, though they have their reservations about the idea. She ultimately drops it when she realizes that love makes one too dumb to know anything.

Segment 5

  • Crow impersonates Jack Palance's pause-loaded performance as Omus, and pauses so long at one point that Emily and Servo just walk away in boredom. Kinga is inspired by the movie to try Omus's exact same plan for herself, but Max points out a flaw in his plan and takes the wind out of her sails.

The Mystery Science Theater 3000 presentation of The Shape of Things to Come has examples of:

  • Bad "Bad Acting": Crow's attempt to fake interest in banana sauce during the condiment taste-test. He's actually reading off a Wikipedia page he printed out, which Emily calls him out on.
  • Mythology Gag: "Ah, Commercial Sign" when Emily sees a familiar-enough light fixture early in the film.
  • Noodle Incident: Crow mentions a previous unnamed host before Emily who was made to go undercover as a contestant in a beauty pageant as a hazing prank. As with the taste-test, Emily calls Crow out for copying the plot of Miss Congeniality.
  • Overly Long Gag: Crow's impersonation of Omus in the last segment, with every single dramatic pause played up longer and longer until he simply stops moving completely. By the time he resumes, Emily and Servo have already left the bridge.
  • The Roast: Held for Sparks in Segment 2.
  • Running Gag:
    • Omus's constant dramatic pauses and riffs on Jack Palance's career in general.
    • Pointing out how Nikki's hair and wardrobe are too well-maintained for someone in life-threatening danger.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Take That!:
    • When a robot is about to hit a button marked Cancel: "Meanwhile, at Netflix."
    • Emily compares Omus's sonic torture device to having Baby Shark stuck in her head.
  • Tin-Can Robot: Sparks. Very much so.
  • Typeset in the Future: Look at the title card. Yup: Eurostile bold. In-universe text tends more toward CRT green-screen and Zeerusty Data 70.
