Original air date: November 27th, 1992

The girls are preparing a picnic, but it starts to rain, forcing them to pack away and retreat to their teahouse. Sweetheart, running a little behind the others, hears the croaking of a frog. She finds the frog making the noise and sees he has an injured leg. She takes him back to show the girls, who decide they should take him to a doctor.

While in the waiting room, Sweetheart suggests naming the frog "Spot" after the spots on his body. The doctor comes out with Spot's leg bandaged, telling them the frog will be able to hop around as before in three days.

Five days later, Spot still isn't back to jumping. Sweetheart realizes they forgot to remove the splint, so Bright Eyes removes his splint and bandage, but Spot still won't budge. The girls make fools of themselves trying to demonstrate to Spot how to hop, which doesn't seem to work initially, but eventually he goes back to hopping. Since he can't be left alone anymore, and no one else can take him in for various reasons, Bon Bon agrees to look after him tonight.

At home, Bon Bon is baking sugar-sprinkled cookies, but things quickly turn hectic when her younger sister Amber opens a hamper containing Spot and he jumps around the kitchen and contaminates the food. Bon Bon's mother orders her to get rid of the frog, so Bon Bon leaves Spot in Starlight's care. Shortly thereafter, Spot jumps into customers' ice cream sundaes and sends everyone running away screaming. Starlight angrily passes Spot back onto Sweetheart.

Sweetheart takes Spot to class the next day, where he causes chaos yet again. While Miss Hackney commends Sweetheart for the good deed of taking care of Spot, she also informs her that it is not a good idea to remove wild animals from their natural habitat. Though the girls are upset about it, they release Spot back into the wild. They decide to have another picnic, but it rains yet again, so they return to the teahouse.

"Gribet" provides examples of:

  • Adoring the Pests: The girls all like Spot, and try to keep him as a pet, with Starlight, Bon Bon, and Sweetheart all taking him to work, home, and school respectively. No one else feels the same, though.
  • An Aesop: Animals should not be removed from their natural habitat if they're doing just fine.
  • Animal Goes to School: Sweetheart takes Spot with her to school, which leads to him hopping around and sending the classroom into disarray and Miss Hackney telling Sweetheart Spot needs to be released.
  • A Pet into the Wild: Sweetheart tearfully releases Spot back into the wild when it becomes clear he's not meant to be kept as a pet.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Spot hops away from Sweetheart and the girls, never to be seen again after they've bonded with him, but he's meant to be free in the wild.
  • Book Ends: The episode starts and ends with the girls about to have a picnic, only to abandon the idea when it rains.
  • Boys Like Creepy Critters: Gender inverted; the main cast of seven girls all take a liking to a frog.
  • Brick Joke: At the beginning of the episode, the girls are about to have a picnic only for it to rain, prompting Clover to remark that it always rains when they have a picnic. The same thing happens again at the end of the episode, at which Clover says, "See! I told you it always rains!".
  • Dude, Not Funny!: The girls pitch in and help Sweetheart nurse an injured frog back to health. Bon Bon says her mother has a great recipe for frog legs, earning a Death Glare and a Say My Name from Patch.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Although Patch is a prankster, she draws the line at animal cruelty, calling out Bon Bon for suggesting (albeit jokingly) that an injured frog have its legs be cooked.
  • Failed a Spot Check: A literal example, considering the frog's name is Spot. The girls took a while to realize that he wasn't jumping around anymore because they had forgotten to remove his splint.
  • Fly in the Soup: Spot contaminates various food items in Bon Bon's kitchen and Starlight's ice cream shop.
  • Grief Song: "Off You Go", where the girls say goodbye to Spot as he leaves.
  • I Was Just Joking:
Bon Bon: My mom's got a great recipe for frog legs.
    Patch: Bon Bon!
    Bon Bon: Just kidding.
  • Oh, No... Not Again!: When it starts raining just as the girls are about to have a picnic:
Clover: Why does it always rain when we have a picnic?
  • One-Word Title: "Gribet".
  • People Fall Off Chairs: When Sweetheart first reveals the frog she found, Clover rather quickly falls out of her chair in shock.
  • Rain, Rain, Go Away: Twice in the episode, the girls have to call off their picnic because of the rain. According to Clover, the same thing happens every time they try to have one.
  • Rule of Three: Spot causes chaos first at Bon Bon's house, then at Starlight's ice cream parlor, then finally in the classroom.
  • Series Continuity Error: Bright Eyes says she's going to be a doctor when she grows up, whereas in "The Masquerade" it was an environmentalist.
  • Stock Animal Name: Sweetheart names the frog "Spot". Normally, of course, a stock name for a dog, but still a stock name nevertheless.
  • Unsuccessful Pet Adoption: The girls take in an injured frog, but when his injuries heal and he hops around wreaking havoc, they have to let him go.
