Recap / My Gym Partners A Monkey S 2 E 3 Cheer Pressure

Go To

The CDMS-cheerleading squad (called "the Jungle Squad") is preparing for a big upcoming cheerleading competition—but when Dickie, the squad's sole male member, gets injured while performing a complicated stunt, he's obviously unable to compete and the rest of the squadnote  worries that they won't be able to enter their upcoming cheerleader if they don't find a replacement (as the competition's rules explicitly state that all competing squads must have at least male member). Adam's ultimately chosen as Dickie's replacement, since he meets all the requirements that the squad was looking for in a replacement.

  • Alpha Bitch: Donna Dorsal of The Jungle Squad, but Jackie, was a bitchier bad, when she was introduced.
  • Camp Gay: Dickie was pretty much at his lowest point of this here. He was the token male cheerleader (or "queerleader") of the Jungle Squad, and made himself loud and proud of it, embarrassing himself in front of the entire school.
  • Does Not Like Men: A brief, but rather out of character moment for Lupe, where she said she thought the "equal rights" movement, allowing for males to join the cheerleading team was a stupid move, and from the looks of it, none of the other cheerleaders were on board with it either.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Donna was a bitch at the start of the episode, but when Adam started insulting Jackie, she rebuked him for being so rude.
  • Funny Background Event: During the entire Extreme Cheerleading State Finals, if one pays attention to the seats in the arena, they'll notice that not one person was present in the audience.
  • Game-Breaking Injury: Dickie fell down off the tower of power, breaking his leg, and twisting his arm.
  • Human Hammer-Throw: Jackie's petty revenge on Adam, was hurling him through the ceiling of the Stapler Center, and sending him straight into outer space.
  • Human Ladder: The Tower of Power.
  • Identical Stranger: Jackie is a humanized, gender-bent Jake.
  • Involuntary Dance: During Adam and Jackie's showdown, Adam refused to dance, but his legs did not. Apparently, the music got to him, and before he knew it, he had turned the basketball court into his dance floor.
Adam: The music flowing through me. My body, like living poetry.
  • Leaving Audience: If they even showed up to begin with.
  • Mistaken for an Imposter: Jackie was reasonably mistaken as Jake dressed as a girl, by Adam. Everything that could go wrong, did. Adam attacked Jackie, insulted her, and made himself look like a complete asshole in front of Kerry, AND an entire stadium of people in the audience at the Stapler Center.
  • The One Guy: Dickie Sugarjumper, the happy/peppy/token queerleader to the Jungle Squad, and later Adam, who expressed the opposite amount of enthusiasm for holding that position.
  • Overly Long Name: "The Chester Arthur Peppy Pep Girls...and Boy".
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: After getting injured, did Dickie make a healthy and speedy recovery? Who cares? He's Dickie!
  • Why Are You Looking at Me Like That?: When the Jungle Squad was in search of a replacement male member, the squad noted that (at least compared to them) he'd have to "kinda scrawny" so they wouldn't strain themselves when lifting him in the stuntsnote . And then Adam come up and noted that "whomever he may be," he would need to look cute in a cheerleader outfit, as he held it up to himself. It was then, that the cheerleaders looked at him in that way, and Adam realized that he was screwed.
