Recap / My Gym Partners A Monkey S 2 E 17 Have Yourself A Joyful Little Animas

Go To

In a My Gym Partner's a Monkey Christmas special, the animal holiday of Animas comes along, and everybody except Adam is aboard the bandwagon.

  • Absurd Phobia: Coach Gills is afraid of pigeons.
  • Aesop Amnesia: Adam considers going back to Chester Arthur Middle School, despite remembering how much he really hated it there in "The Times, They Are Exchangin'".
  • An Aesop: Adam, Windsor, Lupe, Jake, and Coach Gills all learn one at the end of the episode.
    • Coach Gills learns that Animas is about spending time with friends.
    • Windsor learns that Animas is about buying material objects from commercialized corporations.
    • Lupe learns that the greatest gift of all is giving. But she ignored this.
    • Jake learns nothing.
    • Adam learns about trusting his instincts, to help him get through every Animas season.
Adam: My instincts tell me next year, to stay home.
  • Animorphism: Inverted, when Adam meets a humanized version of Jake.
  • Christmas Episode: Or at least, it resembles one. This is actually about "Animas" and it takes place in the month of Juberary, but it parodies a lot of Christmas and Hanukkah customs.
  • Coconut Meets Cranium: An Animas tradition is for people to wear periwinkle on the first day of Animas. If you fail to do that, you'll get hit on the head with a coconut. This happens to Adam. This is a parody on the St. Patrick's Day tradition, where you have to wear green, or else you'll get pinched.
  • Crappy Holidays: The holiday season goes pretty horrible for Coach Gills, Adam, and Windsor this year.
  • Delayed Reaction: When Adam meets a talking tumbleweed, he stands and listens to what it has to say, and only after it finishes speaking does she shout "A TALKING TUMBLEWEED!"
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Jake's mom's voice is heard, calling out to him, at the beginning of the episode. This was before her official debut in "Meet the Spidermonkeys".
  • Extra-Long Episode: First 22 minute episode, since the season 1 finale.
  • Fictional Holiday: Animas, the parodic holiday of Christmas and Hanukkah, celebrated by animals.
  • Fire-Breathing Diner: Adam eats wasabi, which causes him to breathe fire from his nose. This actually clears his sinuses and makes him able to sniff out the Animas rock.
  • Foreign Queasine: Slips enjoys the festive Animas food, regurgitated fish paste.
  • Given Name Reveal: Coach Gills' first name is "Tiffany".
  • The Grinch: Coach Gills.
  • Healing Factor: Windsor screams so loud, he causes Ingrid's head to explode. She instantly grows another one.
  • Helpful Hallucination: Adam has a stress-induced hallucination of his sushi turning to Coach Gills. She gives him some advice that the real Coach Gills learned, during her story. Stuff that Adam would have no way of knowing.
    Adam: Coach Gills?
Coach Gills: Well, actually I'm a stress-induced hallucination of Coach Gills, but never mind that.
  • Ignored Aesop: Lupe doesn't learn a thing at the end of the episode.
Lupe: I've learned from Adam, that the greatest gift of all, if the gift of really expensive jewelry.
  • Interactive Narrator: Horace annoyed Coach Gills, by playing a radio, which narrated everything ... in rhymes!
  • It's All My Fault: Adam feels terrible for unintentionally ruining Animas.
  • Journey to Find Oneself: Adam heads to the outskirts of Glendale, to find out where he belongs.
  • Limited Wardrobe: For the first time, characters wear different colored clothing, for the holiday. Their clothing looks almost exactly like their old clothes, only it's periwinkle.
  • Loser Leaves Town: Adam leaves Glendale, or is is Birmingham, after he grasps the fact that he can't fit in with the Animas hype.
  • Melancholy Musical Number: Adam's song, "Where Do I Belong?", is about him struggling to fit in with the animals on this holiday.
  • New Super Power: At the end of the episode, Adam obtains animal instincts, which he uses to sniff out the Animas Rock.
  • Nice Guy: Ingrid is the ideal person on Animas.
Ingrid: I just love giving gifts and making everyone happy.
  • Peking Duck Christmas: Adam gets Chinese food at Samurai Quan's Sushi Bar.
  • Saving Christmas: Adam has to do this after ruining Animas.
  • Shout-Out:
  • True Meaning of Christmas: Lupe's side plot is about her learning how Animas is about the family and togetherness and not about the presents. Meanwhile, Windsor's side plot is about him understanding how everybody has been forgetting this and trying to remind people of what the holiday really means.
  • Vacuum Mouth: Windsor vacuums some flies into his mouth.
  • Yet Another Christmas Carol: Coach Gills is visited by three ghosts at night, which are actually Mrs. Warthog, Mr. Mandrill, and Principal Pixiefrog.
  • Your Head A-Splode: Ingrid suffers from a gag head explosion for two seconds, before growing another head.
