"Golly!"

New neighbors-The Posabules-have moved in next door, and Orel is immediately smitten with the daughter, Christina, but the two families come into conflict when they discover they use different versions of the Lord's Prayer. Orel is torn between his infatuation with Christina and his need to uphold tradition. In the end, the Posabules move away, accidentally taking Shapey and leaving their son, Block, behind.

Non Threatening Trope Comedy Vol 6.:

  • Distaff Counterpart: Christina, to Orel.
  • Downer Ending: The Puppingtons and the Posabules now completely hate each other (sans Orel and Christina), all because they worded their version of the Lords Prayer differently. Orel and Christina are forbidden to see each other despite being in love, the Posabules move away out of disgust, Shapey and Block are mistaken for each other and the families accidentally switched kids (with only Orel and Christina noticing this).
  • Hypocritical Humor:
    Art: Forgive your debtors!
    Clay: Forgive your trespassers!
Art: You owe me a bottle of wine!
    Clay: GET OFF MY PROPERTY!
  • Inexplicably Identical Individuals: Art and Poppet Posabule look and act exactly like Clay and Bloberta, despite them all initially being strangers. Played with for the kids, as Christina is a Distaff Counterpart to Orel, and Shapey and Block only act alike.
  • Irony: Shapey and Block are the only people between the two families who are physically distinct from each other (although they act the same). This doesn't stop their parents from accidentally switching them, even as the Posabules are moving away.
  • Pet the Dog: In one of the only times he does something genuinely fatherly, Clay notices Orel's immediate infatuation with Christina and encourages it...at least, until the whole "Lord's Prayer" thing.
  • Put on a Bus: Shapey ends up moving away with the Posabules, while Block stays with the Puppingtons. Neither set of parents notices the difference.
  • Serious Business: After initially getting along over their similarities, the Puppingtons and the Posabules immediately start hating each other because they use a single different word when praying.
  • Shipper on Deck: Clay, for Orel and Christina. At first.

Shapey

When Orel thought Shapey was using the watering can for the rain, it turns out he was just drooling.
