Lunella invents a mind-reading device to help her get an edge on fitting in at a class slumber party, but a malfunction causes her and Devil to randomly switch brains throughout the night instead.

Tropes:

  • An Aesop: Fitting in is not the same as belonging. People with different backgrounds and interests can find kinship with each other without changing who they are.
  • Annoying Younger Sibling: Brooklyn's kid brother T.J. He constantly annoys the partygoers, and deliberately messes with the remote for knocking over his toy city.
  • Bait-and-Switch: Brooklyn looks out the window and says "Look, Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur are beating up my little brother." At first, T.J. thinks she's going to jump to his defense, but instead she and the rest of the volleyball team beat him up with pillows, adding that whatever Moon Girl and Devil did to him, he deserved it.
  • Eat That: The volleyball team make Lunella drink the "Slurry of Fury", a disgusting drink made from hot sauce and whatever else is on the fridge. Since Devil was in Lunella's body at the time, she drinks it without question.
  • Eyes Are Mental: When Lunella and Devil switch brains, Lunella's body gets Devil's yellow eyes, while Devil's sclerae turn blue.
  • "Freaky Friday" Flip: Lunella’s mind reading device has the unintended side effect of switching her mind with the target of the mind reading - in this case, Devil.
  • Here We Go Again!: The episode closes on Devil mischievously moving to activate the brain switching remote again so he can taste the pancakes Lunella is having for breakfast.
  • I Ate WHAT?!: Lunella ending up in Devil's body is mortifying partially because it ends up happening while he's in the middle of eating garbage.
  • I Warned You: After Casey's hunch that Lunella's mind-reading device would backfire:
Casey: I hate to say, "I told you so", but I do, and I did.
  • Morphic Resonance: In their swapped state, Lunella's body takes on some of Devil's traits, such as a protruding jaw, sharp teeth, and sharp fingernails.
  • Mythology Gag: Devil and Lunella frequently switch bodies in this episode, a reference to a plot point from the original comics. There it was due to her activated Inhuman powers, while here it's just a result of her invention going awry.
  • Ninja Prop: Lunella responds to the volleyball team's invitation to their slumber party with Visible Silence; Brooklyn, the team leader, sees the speech bubble and moves it aside.
  • No Social Skills: Lunella may be the world's smartest 13-year-old, but it's easier for her to build gadgets and be Moon Girl than try to fit in with her peers. With Casey as well as the volleyball team's encouragement, she sticks out spending the entire night at the slumber party.
  • Noodle Incident: The last time Lunella went to a slumber party, she woke up on the subway covered in soup. Casey then says, "You're Soup Girl?"
  • Shout-Out: The title is a reference to the children’s book Goodnight Moon.
  • Simple Solution Won't Work: When Pops can't change the channel, Mimi asks why Pops doesn't try the TV's buttons instead of futilely using the seemingly nonresponsive remote. Pops responds that he can't since Lunella equipped the TV's parental controls.
  • Slumber Party: The volleyball team asks Lunella and Casey to one. Lunella is reluctant to go because she's had bad experiences in the past with slumber parties due to her social awkwardness.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Pops using the brain-switch device like a TV remote leads to Lunella's entire family fighting over it, causing Lunella and Devil to swap brains the entire night and putting them both in awkward positions.
  • Voices Are Not Mental: Lunella and Devil’s voices stay with their bodies when they switch brains.
  • What Does This Button Do?: Accidentally invoked by Lunella when she warns T.J. not to press the button for the mind switching remote. She facepalms the moment she realizes she just tempted him to press it.
  • Wingding Eyes: Casey gets four-point stars in her eyes when she accepts the volleyball team's invitation.
