Go To

When the Ranger teens visit the Kahmalan history exhibit at the museum and learn of the legend of the Face Stealer, Lord Zedd and Rita plot to awaken the evil spirit from its 5000-year slumber! With the Face Stealer stealing faces all over the city, can our heroes literally save face by repeating history?

Tropes

  • Ambiguous Situation: The Kahmalan warriors who sealed Face Stealer all those years ago may or may not have been a former team of Power Rangers. While Zordon expresses unfamiliarity with the legend when the team explains about it, all that means is that he had no involvement with the incident, leaving it open-ended.
  • Arbitrary Skepticism: Despite encountering monsters as often as the Power Rangers, Bulk and Skull don't believe in the legend of the Face Stealer...until they encounter it themselves. Even Zedd thought it was "a foolish fairy tale" and mocked Rita for believing it.
  • Berserk Button: Face Stealer is enraged over the Rangers using the mystical masks.
  • The Blank: Those that get blasted by Face Stealer are left with blank white spaces where their faces used to be. We see this happen to Bulk and Skull, with Adam and Aisha suffering it no long afterwards.
  • Cassandra Truth: Bulk tries to explain that they were returning the stolen artifacts to the museum when the guards catch them, but in typical fashion, no one believes Bulk and Skull and they're hauled off for questioning.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: Billy when realizing they can use the mystical masks to protect themselves against Face Stealer.
  • Fictional Country: Kahmala
  • Hypocrite Has a Point: The dimwitted Rito chastises Squatt and Baboo's intelligence, but they do nearly break the urn they were sent to steal and later openly talk and move during the Nobody Here but Us Statues example. Even Rito knew better than that.
  • Hypocritical Humor: While stealing the Face Stealer urn, Rito continuously bagged on Squatt and Baboo for being stupid, when he's not exactly brainy himself.
  • I Warned You: With Face Stealer out of the urn, Rita rubs it in Zedd's face that she was right about the monster being real. When Face Stealer is defeated, though, Zedd yells at her right back.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: Zedd just had to throw Face Stealer's urn back to Earth at the worst possible time. Downplayed, at least from his point of view, as Rita's scheme had already been thwarted and he probably figured the monster would lose by that time anyway.
  • Nobody Here but Us Statues: Rito, Baboo, and Squatt hide from a bunch of children by pretending to be part of an exhibit, while holding signs saying "Do Not Touch", "Rare Specimen", and "Out Of Order" respectfully.
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: Bulk and Skull are given the Kahmalan artifacts by the rangers to return to the museum, only for some uninformed security guards to take them in for being seen with stolen property.
  • Not What It Looks Like: Bulk and Skull trying to return the Kahamalan artifacts looked like something completely different to the security guards.
  • Really 700 Years Old: Brought up by Zedd, who barely considers Face Stealer's five millennia-long sealing a nap, which leaves how old Zedd really is up for debate.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: Rita opens an urn which imprisoned the legendary Face Stealer. The Rangers lock him back in the urn upon his defeat at the end of the episode.
  • Smart Ball: Rito during the urn theft, no doubt a result of being teamed up with Squatt and Baboo.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Face Stealer was instead resealed in the urn he came from, unlike his Kakuranger counterpart.
    • Fate Worse than Death: Though being imprisoned for eternity isn't nearly any better than being destroyed.
  • Who Dares?: Face Stealer upon being released for the urn and awakened.
  • You Do Not Want To Know: Rita congratulates Rito for stealing the urn, making it clear she didn't expect him to succeed.
    Rito: You expected anything less?
Rita: You don't really want me to answer that, do you?
    Rito: Uh... no.
  • You Look Familiar: Azina's actress, Rajia Baroudi, would go on to play Delphine in the Alien Rangers saga.
