Recap / Mickey Mouse S 5 E 14 Easy Street

Go To

"Easy Street" is the 14th episode of Season 5 of the new Mickey Mouse (2013) series created by Paul Rudish for the Disney Channel and Disney.com. It is the 92nd in the series.

Pluto turns jealous after Goofy moves in and starts behaving like Mickey's new dog.

Tropes:

  • Aside Glance: Pluto gives one of these when Goofy compliments him on the idea to go to a "doggie spa". After Goofy finds out what this entails and takes his leave, Pluto gives a satisfied wink at the camera, knowing that his plan worked.
  • Ass Shove: Heavily implied when Pierre, the owner of the "doggie spa" pulls out a vacuum tube and makes a mention of "de-worming". This is where Goofy draws the line - he likes his worms!
  • Call-Back: This is the second short to call out the fact that Goofy and Pluto are both dogs.
  • Covered in Mud: After Mickey throws Pluto out into the rain, Pluto gets the idea to dirty himself so that come the next morning, Mickey will have to take him to the "doggie spa". When Goofy hears of this, he also jumps in the mud in the hopes of being taken there as well.
  • Delusions of Doghood: Fed up with working for a living, Goofy decides to act like a normal dog in order to live a care-free life of lying around and eating treats. Downplayed in that Goofy isn't delusional.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Pluto gets the idea to tear up Mickey's slippers and blame it on Goofy to get him kicked out of the house. But, in a rare case of Pluto grabbing the Idiot Ball, he decides to do this while Mickey is still in the room, with himself and the slippers in full view. Naturally, Mickey sees everything and Pluto gets kicked out of the house for the night as punishment.
  • Furry Confusion: The whole episode revolves around Goofy acting like Mickey's pet dog, making Pluto jealous.
  • Good Angel, Bad Angel: Pluto's shoulder devil convinces him to tear apart Mickey's slippers and blame it on Goofy. Subverted in that his shoulder angel agrees with him.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Goofy is jealous of Pluto not having to work for a living and decides to act like him. Pluto, in turn, gets jealous of Goofy getting more of Mickeys' attention.
  • Grey Rain of Depression: When Pluto gets caught chewing on Mickey's slippers, Mickey throws him out of the house, whereupon it rains on Pluto as he mopes in the yard. Then he gets a "Eureka!" Moment when he notices the mud on his paws, complete with an Idea Bulb, and gets himself dirty so he can trick Goofy into coming with him to the "doggie spa".
  • Hates Baths: Pluto gets rid of Goofy by tricking him into coming with him to a "doggie spa". Only instead of being pampered, Goofy follows Pluto through a car-wash like contraption and ends up shaved like a poodle. Goofy finds that too much for him; whether Pluto genuinely likes it or is just happy that Goofy is suffering is unclear.
  • Idea Bulb: Pluto gets one of these after seeing his paws covered in mud after getting kicked out of the house.
  • Innocently Insensitive: Goofy has no idea that his acting like a normal dog is making Pluto resent him for taking Mickey's attention away.
  • Mythology Gag: Pluto's angel and devil are from Mickey's Pal Pluto and its remake Lend a Paw.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: After finding out the hard way what the "doggie spa" trip really is, Goofy runs for it, making an Impact Silhouette through the nearest wall and out into the street.
  • Title Drop: Goofy does this several times when noting how Pluto has an easier life than him, or so he thinks. After the trip to the "doggie spa", however, he yells "Livin' on Easy Street ain't worth all this!" as he changes his mind.
  • Unusually Uninteresting Sight: Mickey is completely unfazed by Goofy acting like a dog. Then again, considering he'd done it before...
