A Wandering Mabushina

Original Airdate: December 13, 2020
Written by: Tete Inoue
Directed by: Kyohei Yamaguchi

Summary:

The base is a wreck, Muryo has a head injury, and Mabushina seems to not remember anything. After Mabushina drank some Japanese tea, she went on a wild drunken rampage to parts unknown. With a missing Takamichi and a Jamen Beast that's hard to beat, the rest of the team scrambles to find out what happened yesterday.

Tropes:

  • Alien Catnip: According to Takamichi, ordinary Japanese tea has properties similar to that of a Crystalian alcoholic drink called Merorophumophumo, and that a mere sip of it is enough to make Crystalians utterly plastered. That or Mabushina’s a serious lightweight.
  • Breather Episode: In comparison to the mostly serious Wham Episodes that have transpired over the last couple of weeks, this week takes a decidedly much sillier route with Mabushina's drunken antics and overall goofiness.
  • The Cameo: Sentai alumnus Hiroya Matsumoto (Tsubasa Ozu/MagiYellow, Masato Jin/Beet Buster, Hoshi Minato) appears as an ice cream vendor.
  • Flashback: Due to the fact that Mabushina doesn't remember anything from yesterday, we get recollections from various witnesses to what happened the day before.
    • Muryo recalls that after getting drunk on Japanese tea, Mabushina interrogates Takamichi on his Kanaema Stone hunt progress before tripping and accidentally destroying the Yodon detection console, then taking matters into her own hands and dragging Takamichi away with her.
    • Yodonna recalls while rampaging with Golf Jamen, they come across Takamichi and a drunken Mabushina. Kiramai Silver tries to fend off Golf Jamen, but Mabushina unearths a Monstone that fuses with the Jamenshi. In pursuit of the powered up Jamenshi, Kiramai Silver tries to have his Shiny Breaker send Mabushina home, but it instead causes further destruction that injured a passing-by ice cream vendor and causes Yodonna to bite onto a popsicle (much to her surprising delight).
    • Golf Jamen recalls fighting Kiramai Silver at a lake when his Jamen Beast, Cart Hildon, appears. Kiramai Silver attempts to summon Mashin Drijan to fight it, but Mabushina's interference caused the Jamenshi to send Kiramai Silver flying into Cart Hildon, fusing the two entities as a result. In a fit of rage, Mabushina beats up Golf Jamen before dragging him into Drijan in an attempt to save her brother, but her drunk driving causes the Mashin to sink into the lake. Finally tired, Mabushina takes her leave, leaving the poor Jamenshi trapped alone inside Drijan as he passes out from drowning.
  • Idiot Ball: Galza firmly holds this as he believes that he's taken out Takamichi, not knowing that he was saved at the last minute by Grateful Phoenix. Granted, it doesn't look like that Galza saw them, but still; he at least had to get a clue from the flying mecha that conveniently flies past the Jamen Beast before it explodes.
  • In Medias Res: The episode starts out with the knocked-out Mabushina and a torn-up base. We then get the details of what happened from Muryo, Yodonna, and the Jamenshi.
  • Refuge in Audacity: Muryo explaining what happened yesterday? Normal. Yodonna explaining what happened yesterday without fighting the Kiramagers? Odd, but par for the course. Golf Jamen sitting criss-cross applesauce while explaining what happened yesterday without fighting the Kiramagers? Definitely counts as this.
  • Running Gag: Two over the course of the episode.
    • Sena running off to somewhere while Shiguru yells at her to slow down.
    • Someone blaming Mabushina for the events from before, leading to Mabushina yelling that she completely doesn't remember something.
  • Pop-Culture Pun Episode Title: To the 1984 film Mahjong Horoki (麻雀放浪記/Mājan Hōrōki, "Mahjong Wandering Record").
  • What Did I Do Last Night?: At the episode's beginning, Mabushina wakes up, confused over what happened earlier (during her drunken rampage which she doesn't remember). The Stinger has Mabushina wake up, confused over why she's surrounded by the unconscious Kiramagers.
  • Whole-Plot Reference: To The Hangover.
