"627" is the nineteenth episodenote  of Lilo & Stitch: The Series. It aired on November 24, 2003.

Stitch develops an ego when he breaks his experiment-catching record, so Jumba activates his newest, strongest, and most evil experiment to knock Stitch down a peg. However, the new experiment joins Gantu and captures several experiments for him so easily that he's unbeatable... or so it seems.

Lilo, Stitch, Jumba, Gantu, and 625 are in pursuit of Experiment 515: the deforestator. The chase leads into town where 515 shreds everything in sight. Stitch corners him in an alley, defeats him, and rehabilitates him in record time. Gantu catches up to capture 515, but then retreats after 515 shreds his clothes along with 625's fur, leaving him in his underwear. Afterward, both Lilo and Jumba complement Stitch's performance in catching experiments, which eventually gets to his head and becomes egotistical. When he behaves rudely at dinner and covers Jumba in cranberry sauce, he decides to teach him a lesson by creating a new experiment: 627. More powerful than Stitch with none of his weaknesses, has twenty different powers of other experiments, and cannot be turned to good.

When Pleakley discovers what Jumba has done, he tries to go and tell only for Jumba to threaten him to be quiet otherwise he would create another experiment with a giant finger that can poke out his giant eye. At the same time, 627 escapes from containment and runs off into the forest. Meanwhile, after getting wrapped up in another argument over their recent failure to capture an experiment, 625 goes out into the woods to have a sandwich. There he meets 627 and gives him to Gantu as his new sidekick, so he can stay at home and do nothing like he always does. Gantu is impressed with 627, especially when he demonstrates his ability to shoot plasma at 625.

The next day, Lilo and Stitch are at a farmyard where they are about to capture Experiment 603: a living laser bolt. Stitch is still being egotistical, even while he successfully captures 603. Just then Gantu shows up with 627 and takes 603 from them. Stitch challenges 627 and easily gets beaten. They return home with news of their encounter to Jumba and Pleakley. While looking through Jumba's computer to determine which experiment it was, Jumba accidentally confesses to 627's creation. Stitch refuses to accept that 627 is superior to him, and over the next few days, he competes against his newest "cousin" in hunting experiments. 627 successfully captures many experiments and Stitch ends up getting relentlessly bullied and tormented by him. After a while, Stitch admits defeat.

Meanwhile, things for 625 are no better. Since 627 became Gantu's new sidekick, he has been abused and forced to clean around the ship. Gantu has also decided to use 627 to conquer the galaxy by himself, even quitting his job of working for Dr. Hämsterviel. When 625 gets blasted by 627 and slips, he discovers that 627's weakness is laughter when he laughs uncontrollably at 625's misfortunes. Since 625 has had enough of 627's abuse, he calls Lilo and informs her of what he has discovered. Jumba clarifies that he gave 627 extra everything, including an extra large sense of humor. With 625's help, Lilo and Stitch lure Gantu and 627 to the middle of town for a final battle. Stitch defeats 627 by making a fool of himself during their battle and using the latter's abnormally large sense of humor against him. Eventually, 627 laughs himself into unconsciousness, and since he cannot be turned to good Lilo dehydrates him back into a pod using a home food dehydrator she ordered from a TV commercial earlier.

Afterward, Stitch has learned his lesson and is no longer egotistical. Meanwhile, however, Jumba is shown to have made Experiment 628 and stores the pod away on his ship.

Experiments who appeared or were mentioned in this episode:

  • Slimy (X-390): A green slug-like experiment who is designed to make trails of slippery slime in order to trip up enemies. He is first seen at a local park's basketball court getting captured by Stitch, only for 627 to use telekinetic powers to take Slimy away and give him to Gantu. Slimy is later seen shaking slime around Gantu's ship, much of which gets on Reuben.
  • Deforestator (X-515): A big purple roughly wombat-like experiment about three feet tall with long blade-like claws on his front paws and blade-like neck. He is designed to cut down entire forests. He first appeared just before Jumba activated 627 when Stitch started bragging about how easily he catches experiments (catching Deforestator in two minutes).
  • Eva (X-567): Seen as a pod.
  • Zap (X-603): A yellow limbless dog-like experiment who is designed to be a living laser bolt. He is first seen damaging a barn to be caught by Stitch, only for Gantu to take Zap away with 627's help. He is later seen flying around Gantu's ship, knocking things over.
  • Launch (X-607): Seen as a pod.
  • Reuben (X-625): Became the target of 627's torment, next to Stitch, and was jealous when 627 took his place as Gantu's new sidekick. He was the one to figure out 627's Achilles' Heel, and relay it to Lilo.
  • X-627: This episode's Monster of the Week; a red, cone-headed koala-like experiment with design similarities to Stitch who is much more powerful than him and is designed to be completely evil to the point of being made unreformable. He was created by Jumba to teach Stitch a lesson after his ego begins to get the better of him. He soon escapes Jumba's ship and is found by 625 and taken to Gantu, who then makes him his new sidekick. Is defeated and dehydrated after Lilo finds out his one weakness; his large sense of humor.
  • X-628: Its pod is seen at the end, having been created by Jumba and stored on his ship.

Tropes featured in this episode include:

  • All Your Powers Combined: In addition to Stitch’s powers, 627 also has the combined powers of 20 other experiments, such as Sparky’s electrokinesis, Slushy’s ice breath, Plasmoid’s power to shoot plasma blasts, etc.
  • Always Someone Better: In the beginning, Stitch has become full of himself and brags to Jumba that he’s the greatest thing he’ll ever create. He’s proven wrong when Jumba creates 627, who’s stronger, faster, and smarter than him, and has the combined powers of 20 other experiments.
  • Analogy Backfire: When Lilo and Stitch are down about being unable to beat 627, Pleakley tries to encourage them by saying "Remember the battle cry of Grootplock-5: 'Never give up!'".
Lilo: Well, what happened on Grootplock-5?
    Jumba: [Flatly] They gave up.
  • Anything You Can Do, I Can Do Better: 627 has all of Stitch’s powers and skills to a greater degree, being stronger, faster, and smarter. He also has none of Stitch’s weaknesses.
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: How 625 discovers 627's weakness, by noticing his laughing fits.
Gantu: Enough! It wasn't that funny.
625: But it was very interesting…
  • Banana Peel: Stitch purposely slips on one to make 627 laugh.
  • Becoming Part of the Image: During Stitch’s final battle with 627, 627 sends Stitch flying through a billboard and Stitch is left with his face sticking out through the billboard over the body of a woman in a bikini.
  • Beyond Redemption: Jumba claims that unlike the experiments who came before him, 627 can never become good.
  • Bittersweet Ending: After many battles, Lilo and Stitch finally defeat and dehydrate 627, ensuring he will cause them no more trouble. However, Gantu still captured some experiments thanks to 627’s help, and the episode ends with Jumba revealing he’s created an experiment 628.
  • Break the Haughty: Stitch, big time! For his Acquired Situational Narcissism, Jumba creates 627 to teach him a lesson. 627 utterly defeats Stitch at everything and Stitch's confidence is broken.
    Stitch: (depressed) Stitch no special...
  • Card-Carrying Villain: 627 loves evil so much it’s the only word he can say.
  • Comedic Sociopathy: 627’s sense of humor. It turns out to be his weakness.
  • Comedic Underwear Exposure: Gantu is left wearing nothing but his boxers after Deforestator shreds his clothes.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Stitch is easily beaten by 627 in every single fight they have.
  • Defeat Means Friendship: Stitch immediately convinces Deforestator to switch from bad to good after beating him in a fight.
  • Enemy Mine: After having enough of 627’s bullying, 625 is more than willing to tell Lilo about his weakness, telling her he had his reasons when she asked why he'd go against Gantu.
  • Evil Counterpart: 627 is an evil counterpart to Stitch, as both of them are genetic experiments created by Jumba to cause destruction, and 627 resembles Stitch and has all of his powers and skills, though Stitch became good while 627 remains evil.
  • Eye Scream: After Pleakley says he’s going to tell the others about 627, Jumba repeatedly threatens to create an experiment with a giant finger to poke Pleakley in his eye if he rats him out. Luckily, Jumba slips up after accidentally gloating about the experiment.
  • Foreshadowing: 627 is shown indulging in Evil Laugh throughout the episode, which actually hints at his weakness.
  • Gone Horribly Right: Jumba created 627 in order to deflate Stitch's ego by proving he could make an experiment more powerful than him. Unfortunately, 627 worked out a little too well, with Jumba even admitting he may have made a boo-boo by creating him.
Jumba: Ah, well, living and learning.
  • Goofy Print Underwear: Gantu is revealed to wear boxers with pictures of Saturn on them. Lilo teases him for it.
  • Helpless with Laughter: Stitch intentionally embarrasses himself to take advantage of the eponymous 627's constant laughter. Sure enough, 627 laughs so hard that he faints, allowing Lilo to put him back into captivity.
  • The Hyena: 627 constantly laughs throughout the episode, always at other people’s expense.
  • Hypocrite: Jumba claims the people of Grootplock-5 gave up, despite “Never give up” being their battle cry.
  • Instantly Proven Wrong: Jumba tells Lilo that once an experiment is rehydrated, it is impossible to dehydrate again. Cue a TV ad for a new home food dehydrator.
  • Karma Houdini: Jumba receives no punishment for creating 627. Pleakley and Lilo do claim they should punish him by making him do the dishes, but that’s a slap on the wrist for purposely creating an evil, superpowered monster.
  • One-Word Vocabulary: All 627 can say is the word "evil".
  • Pie in the Face: During Stitch’s final battle with 627, he gets hit by a bunch of pies, with one pie hitting him in the face.
  • Rimshot: One is heard after Jumba says the people of Grootplock-5 gave up.
  • Sadist: 627 enjoys beating people up and thinks other people’s suffering is hilarious.
  • Saying Too Much: How Lilo and Stitch find out about 627. From Jumba himself, no less!
Jumba: …Is one-eyed big mouth trying to tell you something?
Lilo: Something about you having a screw-loose.
Jumba: HA! My silly friend, he is one with screw-loose, if he thinks I would let him tell you that I built 627! (realizing what he just said) Ohhhh, I am very busted now.
  • Series Continuity Error:
    • In the scene where the experiments are making a mess in Gantu's ship, experiment pods scattered around the mess are shown with their three digits printed on with an "X-" prefix. While "X-" is the official shorthand prefix of an experiment, their pods are normally only printed with just their three-digit numbers without any other characters such as letters or symbols.
    • Slimy first appeared in Stitch! The Movie with a dark green coloration. In this episode, he is bright green.
  • Shout-Out: Gantu references Shaft with a Bragging Theme Tune.
"Who's the Supreme Order Bringer to the galaxy? Gantu!"
  • Slapstick: Stitch purposely invokes this on himself to defeat 627 after learning his weakness. It works.
  • Tempting Fate: When Stitch declares Jumba will never make anything better than him, Jumba sees that as a challenge...
  • Villain Team-Up: Gantu and 627.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: When Jumba accidentally says that the unknown experiment Stitch recently fought is actually a new experiment he created, Lilo is not happy with him.
    Lilo: 627?! You. Made. A 627!?!
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: The episode ends with a supposed Sequel Hook in the form of Jumba hiding Experiment 628's pod on his ship, but this was actually nothing more than a joke planted by the production staff; they never intended to follow up on it. And no, despite what some merch may say, Leroy is not Experiment 628.note
