Go To

Air date: November 13, 2021 (CAN), May 25, 2022 (USA)

Destination - Dubrovnik, Croatia.

"Cave Dad": Andy is convinced his dad is a caveman.

"Cave Dad" contains the following tropes:

  • All Cavemen Were Neanderthals: Inverted. While the episode does discuss neanderthals, the characters learn about how neanderthals were actually smarter than most people think.
  • Contemporary Caveman: Sam's somewhat primitive behavior convinces Andy that he is a caveman.
  • Epic Fail: Sam can't even open a bag of chips with an easy-open top. He just pulls the bag apart and causes chips to go on the ground.
  • Hopeless with Tech: Sam struggles for 10 minutes to turn on the computer. He even uses the mouse like a phone to call someone.
  • Impossible Pickle Jar: Sam struggles to open a pickle jar with an ostensibly easy-open lid.
  • Literal-Minded: Andy sees his dad struggle with basic everyday modern things, and his mom calls him a "caveman" and refers to his room as a "man cave". This leads Andy to believe that his dad really is a neanderthal. He and the others paint his room to look like an actual cave. Sam is furious when he finds out, but clears up the misunderstanding; 'caveman' is just a nickname that Lucie calls him.
  • "Oh, Crap!" Smile: Luna, Leo, and Carmen give sheepish grins when Andy explains his motivation for making Sam's room into a literal cave.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: Luna's reaction when Sam scolds Andy.
Sam: What kind of CRAZY thinking led to all of this?
    Luna: This is not good....
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Sam severely scolds Andy for bringing rocks and dirt into his room, and calling him a neanderthal.

"Grumpa Comes to Call": Carmen is given the "joyful" task of cheering up her grumpy grandpa.

"Grumpa Comes to Call" contains the following tropes:

  • An Aesop: Sometimes, you just have to give someone what they want. Carmen's family thinks that bitter foods make Grumpa grouchy, but that's not true in the end. He's only grumpy because of his aching bones. When he finally gets orange marmalade that's just the right amount of bitter, he finally smiles..
  • Cheer Up Episode: Carmen is tasked by her mother to making Grumpa smile.
  • Don't Wake the Sleeper: In the beginning of the episode, Carmen tells Andy and Leo not to make a lot of noise to wake up Grumpa. This goes just as well as you'd expect.
  • Everyone Has Standards: When Grumpa tastes the Super Ballistic Mega Bitter Orange Marmalade, he deems it too bitter for his tastes.
  • Food as Characterization: Grumpa is as bitter as the things he eats and drinks (which includes burnt toast and black coffee).
  • Gratuitous Spanish: When Grumpa wakes up, you can hear him mutter "Siempre con este ruido".
  • Grumpy Old Man: Carmen's grandfather is angry and grouchy all the time, to the point where he is called 'Grumpa'.
  • High-Pressure Emotion: Steam leaks out of Grumpa's nonexistent ears when he gets mad at a donut.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: The kids try to prevent Grumpa from knowing about the Bitter Orange Festival, because he is not allowed to eat bitter foods. Luna carelessly mentions it.
  • Real Men Take It Black: Grumpa only likes to drink bitter black coffee.
  • Stock Food Depictions: Carmen offers Grumpa a typical pink frosted donut to eat.
  • Sweet Tooth: Inverted. Grumpa only eats bitter foods.
  • Verbal Backspace: When Grumpa greets Leo and Andy.
    Grumpa: Painful! I mean...hello!
  • When He Smiles: Grumpa's smile looks like the :3 emoticon, and it's pretty cute for an old man.
