Olivia has to clear her name after she's caught wiring money to her brother, an alleged rapist and fugitive from justice; a look through Julia Milfield's file on him reveals some startling information that calls his guilt into question.

Tropes:

  • Armor-Piercing Question: When Benson asks Julia to her face if her sister, Carrie, was molested, Julia firmly denies it. Benson breaks through Julia's denial by asking if Carrie had ever told her she was molested. Julia resists for a few moments before confirming that Carrie had once told her she was molested by their father.
  • A Day in the Limelight: The episode puts Olivia Benson is front and center.
  • Corrupt Cop: Julia turned into one to nail Simon, planting evidence and framing him for rapes that he didn't commit, in order to make him pay for allegedly raping her sister years ago.
  • Frame-Up: It's revealed that Lt. Milfield framed Simon for all the rapes he was accused of, because she blamed him for trying to rape her sister, Carrie, in high school. Carrie subsequently dropped out of high school, became a terrible drug addict, and eventually died of a heroin overdose. It turns out Simon didn't rape Carrie, but his attempts to be intimate with her caused Carrie to Freak Out and flashback to when her father molested her.
  • Hostage Situation: Julia's attempted murder of Simon turns into one when he gets her gun and accidentally shoots her. Olivia then has to try to talk him down and it eventually turns into Julia confessing that she did indeed frame Simon for her sister's rape and several others before he relents.
  • Married to the Job: This time, it's lab tech O'Halloran who has to bail on a date in order to solve the case. He tells Benson this is the one night out of 365 that he has a date.
  • Not What It Looks Like: When Benson, Stabler and Porter go to Simon's house, they find him holding a gun and standing over a wounded Lt. Milfield. Milfield claims Simon is trying to kill her, while Simon says Milfield held the gun to him and in the struggle, she was shot by accident. Julia eventually admits it really was an accident.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Between her brother's alleged crimes and the FBI catching onto her helping him out, Benson takes out her frustrations while questioning a man accused of rape.
    • For that matter, aiding and abetting a fugitive wanted for rape is very much out of character for Benson, so we see how serious her relationship with her brother is.
  • The Place: The title refers to Florida Village, New York, in which the climactic scene of the episode takes place.
  • Screw the Rules, I Make Them!: Lt. Milfield uses her position to Frame-Up Simon as payback for what happened to her sister.
  • Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What's Right!: The episode's premise is Olivia risking her career to set her brother straight.
  • Sequel Episode: To Season 8's "Philadelphia."
  • Spotting the Thread: While peering through Lt. Milfield's case file on Simon, Benson notices something about the enhanced photo of a head hair found on one of the victims. Benson's instincts prove correct when O'Halloran confirms that the hair wasn't pulled out like the victim said, but actually planted.
  • Swapped Roles: For once, it's Olivia who beats a confession out of a rapist in the interrogation room and Elliot calmly asks her what is going on.
  • Turn Out Like His Father: This episode focuses on the concern that Simon will go the same route as his and Olivia's father, who was a Serial Rapist.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Capt. Cragen chews Benson out for physically beating a confession out of rapist.
Cragen: What the hell is your problem?
Olivia: We got a confession, didn't we?
Cragen: And what part of that do you think is gonna stand up in court? A five year-old could have done a better job!
