Recap / Lab Rats S 1 EP 2 Crush Chop And Burn Part 2

Go To

Picking up from where the first part left off, Adam, Bree and Chase are preparing for their departure, dreading what will become of them in the snowy research facility they're being sent to. Leo is just as bummed, having found real friends in them. Seeing this, Donald builds robot replicas of the bionic siblings to replace them, which doesn't help any. However, when left alone with the robots, Leo soon discovers they're actually the real bionic siblings, who swapped themselves and the robots out, but have decided to keep the charade by acting like robots in public. Unsettled by how much time Leo is spending with the supposed robots, Tasha convinces Donald to have them dropped off at the recycling facility.

With Adam, Bree and Chase in danger of being crushed, chopped and burnt to death, Leo goes off to rescue them, and Donald and Tasha soon discover the truth. However, the bionic siblings are able to use their abilities to escape certain doom, and Leo arrives just in time, eventually turning off the machine. Upon returning home, Leo expresses to Donald and Tasha how much his newfound friendship with the bionic siblings matters to him, and Donald, realizing they're humans and teenagers with needs of their own, decides to give them a chance to live normal lives while balancing out their missions, as long as their bionic nature is kept secret.

Tropes:

  • A Minor Kidroduction: We are treated to a brief flashback scene of the Lab Rats as little kids, with Donald reading to them about batteries and ions like he's reading from a storybook.
  • Bait-and-Switch Comment
Adam: You made a robot of me that just stands around telling people the time and the temperature?
Adam: That's the coolest thing I've ever seen!
  • Brick Joke: The events of this second part explain the episode title.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Chase's sneezing, initially seen in the flashback, helps put out the fire when the Lab Rats are in the recycling machine.
  • Never Say "Die": Averted.
Chase: There's plenty of distance between us and that. We're fine.
[Recycling machine turns on and starts whirring]
Chase: And by fine I mean we're all gonna die!
  • Super-Strong Child: Little Adam, as seen in the flashback scene.
