Hank needs to take some antique furniture to his mother in Arizona, so he rents an 18-wheeler and takes Bobby on a road trip (with Dale, Bill and Boomhauer stowing away). Meanwhile, Peggy and Luanne try to write a Christmas novelty song.

Tropes:

  • Art Shift: When Peggy describes the Christmas song she's envisioned to Luanne, the artwork shifts to a style reminiscent to that of Rankin/Bass's 2D specials.
  • Artistic License – Cars: While important to the plot of the episode of the truck running out of fuel and the batteries going dead, most tractor-trailers can idle for days without running out of fuel, and it's highly unlikely a planner like Hank would have gotten to a truck stop and not refueled the truck. Granted, this is more likely to show just how badly Hank's friends managed to screw up.
    • Also, when backing down the mountain, Hank is often shown turning the steering wheel the direction he needs the trailer to go. Combination vehicles like tractor-trailers need to have the steering wheel turned the opposite direction of which way you want the trailer to go when in reverse.
    • Hank also mentions having a "Class C" license, but in the United States a "Class A" license is required to drive tractor-trailers.
  • Epic Fail: The delivery, in spite of Hank's friends embarrassing him, still goes smoothly... until he falls asleep. In the time he was asleep, Hank's friends manage to empty out the truck's engine and battery (quite an accomplishment considering the aforementioned Artistic License), and managed to get them lost in THE ROCKY MOUNTAINS.
  • Imagine Spot: When Hank gets too tired to keep driving and Boomhauer takes over, he takes a wrong turn at an exit ramp and barely manages to avoid crashing, which is then cut to them arriving safely at Hank's mother's house and unloading the cargo. When they start celebrating, it's revealed that it was all Hank's dream and they're currently stuck on top of a mountain with an empty battery and gas tank.
  • MacGyvering: Hank barely manages to get the truck down from the mountain and to the nearest gas station with an empty battery and gas tank by making use of his mother's inherited belongings and other items in their possession: he first uses a pair of opera glasses to scout out a spot where they can turn the truck around for a hill start, then they use what little kerosene they have left in a pair of antique oil lamps as emergency fuel, Boomhauer and Bill use a bedpan and a fireplace spade to dig out the tires, and Hank and Bobby use a chain and a strap to get extra traction for the tires in the snow. After they get the truck moving, Bill holds the cargo in place since the chains and straps are already in use and Boomhauer guides Hank down in reverse with a CB radio. They also lose their rear view mirrors going through a narrow pass, at which point Hank makes Bill and Dale hang out of the cabin and scout for obstacles.
  • Pet the Dog: While Bobby starts the whole fiasco by convincing Hank's friends to start driving, Hank acknowledges his heart was in the right place and doesn't punish him for it.
  • Pretender Diss: Hank tries his best to fit in with the actual truckers, partially because of the exclusive perks they get in truck stop, but when Bobby blurts out that their cargo is the new furniture Hank's mother inherited and the other guys decide to burst out of the container without their clothes shortly afterwards by having Dale shoot a hole in the door so that he can open it from the inside, they laugh at him and chase him away from the trucker section of the truck stop, saying that they're not truckers, just some guys with a truck. It's not until they hear about their exploits getting the truck down from the mountain it's stuck on from listening in on Boomhauer guiding Hank down from there in reverse with a CB radio that they accept his skills as being trucker-worthy.
  • Product Delivery Ordeal: Hank gets to live his childhood dream of being a trucker by transporting his mom's fragile belongings from Texas to Arizona in an 18-wheeler. Problems arise when Dale, Bill, and Boomhauer sneak along for the ride and other truckers deride Hank as an amateur. It culminates with Hank and the guys having to pull off a risky maneuver driving backwards down a mountain; they succeed, earning the truckers' respect, and join a convoy to Arizona.
  • Special Guest: Trace Adkins as Big John, Deana Carter as Sally, Brad Paisley as Chip, George Strait as Cornell and Travis Titt as Walt.
