* MacGyvering: Hank barely manages to get the truck down from the mountain and to the nearest gas station with an empty battery and gas tank by making use of his mother's inherited belongings and other items in their possession: he first uses a pair of opera glasses to scout out a spot where they can turn the truck around for a hill start, then they use what little kerosine they have left in a pair of antique oil lamps as emercency fuel, Boomhauer and Bill use a bedpan and a fireplace spade to dig out the tires and Hank and Bobby use a chain and a strap to get extra traction for the tires in the snow. After they get the truck moving, Bill holds the cargo in place since the chains and straps are already in use and Boomhauer guides Hank down in reverse with a CB radio. They also lose their rear view mirrors going through a narrow pass, at which point Hank makes Bill and Dale hang out of the cabin and scout for obstacles.

It's not until they hear about their exploits getting the truck down from the mountain it's stuck on from listening in on Boomhauer guiding Hank down from there in reverse with a CB radio that they accept his skills as being trucker-worthy.

Problems arise when Dale, Bill, and Boomhauer sneak along for the ride and other truckers deride Hank as an amateur. It culminates with Hank and the guys having to pull off a risky maneuver driving backwards down a mountain; they succeed, earning the truckers' respect, and join a convoy to Arizona.
