- An Aesop: Not everything has to be a competition. A hobby can just be a hobby.
- Competition Freak: Hank ruins the fun of the rose competition for Bobby thanks to his competitive attitude.
- Mistaken for Masturbating: Hank is suspicious as to why Bobby is spending so much time in his bedroom closet; it is implied that he thinks he is doing this, but he is actually growing roses and he's hiding it because he didn't want Hank to find out.
- Mushroom Samba: The two stoners hallucinate that Hank has an enormous head, many mouths, and has a distorted voice.
- Real Men Wear Pink: Morgan, the man Hank meets when signing up for the rose competition — a very tall, buff black man (voiced by Michael Clarke Duncan) who loves growing roses and bred his own crossbreed called a Ruby My Dear.
- Serious Business: As Hank finds out, rose competitions aren't just fun things for old ladies to do in their free time. It's serious, time consuming work and effort.
- Special Guest: Michael Clarke Duncan as Morgan Webb and Betty White as both Dorothy and Ellen.
- What the Hell, Hero?: Morgan's reaction when he finds out Hank is trying to get his son into the very tough world of rose competitions.Morgan: How dare you steal that boy's innocence!
