Recap / King Of The Hill S 3 E 16 Jon Vitti Presents Return To La Grunta

Go To

Luanne gets a job as a drink girl at La Grunta, and gets sexually harassed by the golfers. Hank swims with a dolphin, but the joy he has is short-lived after it sexually harasses him.

Tropes:

  • An Aesop: Sexual harassment knows no gender or species. Anyone can make unwanted sexual advances on anyone else, and letting the harassment happen without reporting it is bad.
  • All Men Are Perverts: The golfers that harass Luanne are all men, and male dolphins are no better.
  • Animals Lack Attributes: Despite Duke being an aroused mammal for much of the episode, nothing is shown other than a slight red glow when he's starting to get aroused.
  • Asshole Victim: Being sexually harassed by a dolphin is not a pleasant experience. But when it happens to the golfer that kept touching Luanne, it's quite karmic.
  • Bestiality Is Depraved: Implied with the trainer, who sounds like he wants Duke to make love to him.
  • Black Comedy Rape: Hank gets into a pool with Duke the Dolphin, and after rubbing his stomach, turns Duke on, compelling him to try and have his way with Hank. And later on, the lecherous golfer, but he had it coming.
  • Butch Lesbian: While her sexuality is never addressed, Luanne's boss is quite butch, with Luanne saying she thought she was a man.
  • Cry Laughing: Dale, Bill and Boomhauer all laugh at Hank over what happened, until eventually Bill starts crying and revealing the same thing happened to him (twice) and they bought him off.
  • Every Man Has His Price: Hank agrees to sign a form stating he won't sue La Grunta over what happened, in addition to getting all kinds of merchandise such as T-shirts, a robe, slippers, beer, etc. Then later on, when Bill reveals the same thing happened to him, Hank returns everything in disgust.
  • Flirtatious Smack on the Ass: What the golfers do to Luanne. Played for Drama, as it's part of Luanne being sexually harassed.
  • Hates Being Touched: What happens to Luanne after her encounter with the golfers. Luanne is looking in the fridge when Bobby comes by and casually places his hand on her, making her snap at him. She apologizes, and explains what happened to her.
  • In Case You Forgot Who Wrote It: Jon Vitti (who previously wrote for Saturday Night Live in the mid-1980s and The Simpsons in the early 1990s) wrote the episode, with his name being in the title (though sometimes the title is shortened to "Return to La Grunta").
  • Karmic Rape: Happens to the golfer who keeps touching Luanne. Hank throws him into the pool with a horny Duke.
  • Knight of Cerebus: The golfers, especially the one who actually gropes Luanne and still harasses her, even after she dresses in Peggy's frumpy clothes.
  • New Job Episode: Luanne gets a job as a drink girl at La Grunta, and at first she's ecstatic over getting to make her own money, but it goes south when she gets sexually harassed by the golfers.
  • Papa Wolf: More like a case of Uncle Wolf, but Hank, after seeing one of the golfers touch Luanne, marches over to him, grabs him and takes him all the way to Duke's pool and throws him in. Then turns on Duke and gets him molested.
  • Pay Evil unto Evil: Hank's solution for punishing the golfer who sexually harasses Luanne is to throw him into Duke's pool and get the dolphin to molest him.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: The other golfers quickly leave after Hank comes by and grabs the main offender.
  • Shell-Shocked Veteran: Despite his best attempts to ignore what happened and get past the issue, Hank is still on edge over the event. Best shown when he's fishing with the guys and a catfish wiggles around his lap, and later when trying to get intimate with Peggy and he hears dolphin squeaks.
  • Tarnishing Their Own Beauty: Luanne does this by wearing glasses and baggy clothes that belong to Peggy in an attempt to turn the perverted golfers off, but it doesn't work as they still get touchy and even put their tip money in her shirt.
