Recap / King Of The Hill S 12 E 20 Cops And Robert

Go To

While out shopping, Hank notices his is wallet missing, and assumes that it has been stolen. He sees a man with what appears to be his wallet and takes it, only to discover that Peggy had put his wallet in her purse after he had left it on the kitchen counter. Hank attempts to call the man, Barry Rollins to return the wallet and explain what happened, but due to his poor choice of words, Barry misinterprets the phone call as a threat. A previously milquetoast Barry then snaps and vows to get revenge on Hank, declaring that he's tired of being a victim.

Meanwhile, Bobby is falsely accused of throwing a can at Officer Brown at school, and as a punishment, he is assigned to follow him around town and assist with his duties. Bobby gets revenge on Dooley and Clark Peters for throwing the can by helping Officer Brown catch them cutting class at Whataburger. While all that is going on, Dale applies for a job at a Hooter's-esque sports bar called Bazooms! in hopes of being turned down and suing for gender discrimination, but instead he is offered the job.

Hank, Bill and Boomhauer drive to Barry's home to return his wallet, but after they knock on his door he comes out and chases them with a baseball bat and the guys flee in Hank's truck. Barry gets in his car and pursues them. Officer Brown and Bobby see Hank run a red light and Barry chasing them. Officer Brown activates his lights and siren and follows the two vehicles to Bazooms!, the new Hooter's-esque sports bar where Dale is working. The man is apprehended by Officer Brown at the restaurant and everybody is safe. After the arrest, Hank returns Barry's wallet and decides to press charges against Barry for assault. As for Dale, he demands that the manager give him and the waitresses money for his being assaulted. The manager agrees to do so, but only for the women as Dale had been giving away free food, which is a form of employee theft. Dale tries to get the women to back him up by claiming the manager looked down at his shirt, but they refuse and Dale is fired.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Create Your Own Villain: A very inadvertent example. Hank accidentally mugs Barry under the mistaken impression the latter pickpocketed him, only to realize his wallet was put in Peggy's purse, but due to miscommunication when he calls him, is misinterpreted by Barry as threatening him. Barry, having been passive for too much of his life, finally snaps and threatens Hank and his friends with violence despite every attempt from the latter to return Barry's wallet.
  • Fanservice with a Smile: Dale spends the episode working at Bazooms!, a "Hooters" Expy.
  • Frivolous Lawsuit: Dale applies for a job at Bazooms! specifically so that he can sue them for discrimination when they turn him down for being male, but that is subverted when he is offered the position. He accepts it in hopes that they won't tolerate a man working as a waitress there for very long (again, letting him sue for discrimination when Barry accidentally grabs his Daisy Dukes and pulls them down, letting him claim it's a hostile workplace enviroment), but that is also subverted when he starts giving away free food to get bigger tips, giving them a perfectly legal reason to fire him.
  • Get-Rich-Quick Scheme: Dale tries to make easy money by applying for a position at Bazooms! with the expectation that they will turn him down for being male, letting him sue them for gender discrimination.
  • He Who Fights Monsters: Invoked by Barry, when he states that he's tired of being picked on by "the wrong guy" and that they made him into one.
  • Poor Communication Kills: Hank contacts Barry Rollins attempting to explain that he wants to return Barry's wallet, but his poor choice of words ends up sounding like a threat.
  • Rage Breaking Point: Barry, who has been passive, timid and non-confrontational throughout his life, snaps when he finds himself (accidentally) robbed by Hank.
  • Special Guest: Fred Willard as Officer Brown.
