Recap / Kim Possible S4E20 "Larry's Birthday"

Go To

When Dementor's obsession with Kim's battlesuit reaches its peak, he decides to send his brother-in-law Myron to capture Ron for a ransom. However, Myron mistakes Ron's description for Kim's cousin Larry (who she was distracting while her family set up his birthday party) and captures him. Thinking the whole thing is an LARP for his birthday, Larry plays along with helping Dementor's scheme. Unfortunately, the diminutive German finds that Larry's antics may be more than he can take.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Accidental Kidnapping: Dementor's initial plan was to kidnap Ron to exchange for Kim's battlesuit. However, due to the only description he gave Myron being "a guy with Kim Possible who doesn't look like he belongs with Kim Possible", Myron kidnaps Larry instead.
  • And You Thought It Was a Game: Larry thinks that Professor Dementor's scheme to steal Kim's battlesuit is part of a LARP set up for his birthday. He figures out that Dementor is trying to put one over on him and thwarts the scheme, all while continuing to think that he's just playing a game.
  • Bait-and-Switch: At first, Kim's Lock-and-Load Montage made it look like she was going on another epic mission...until Wade reveals that it's a Cat Up a Tree job. However, the suit is needed as the cat is a puma.
  • The Cameo: During The Stinger, Drakken and Shego are seen reading the news that Dementor was captured by Larry, much to their confusion as to who he was.
  • Casting Gag: Myron suggests that he and Dementor refer to each other as "B.I.L." (Brother-in-Law) which is a homophone for his actor, Bill Fagerbakke's, real name.
  • Fluffy Tamer: The lady in the opening with a pet puma:
Ron: I gotta ask; why a pet puma?
Lady: Because the grizzly didn't get along with the gator!
  • Double Take: Kim starts to sympathize when Ron says that Larry is just as confused with her Cuddle Buddy collection as she is with his hobbies... then a few seconds later realizes that Larry knows about her collection.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Kim can not stand the geeks and their interests at all. However, as Ron points out she herself is quite the geek when it comes to cuddle buddies.
  • Insistent Terminology: In order for Ron to bring Hana along on their search, Kim told him it was recon.
  • Not Me This Time: When Dementor's lair explodes, Ron tells Kim he didn't do that, with her sarcastically saying it was probably Hana, which the audience knows is what did happen.
  • Obnoxious In-Laws: Dementor has this reaction to his brother in law Myron.
  • Pity the Kidnapper: There are times when Dementor is driven crazy by Larry and his 'scenarios'.
  • Shout-Out: Ron makes a variation of the famous line from Jaws:
"We're going to need a bigger boat...and water!"
  • What He Said: After Kim and the others are captured, Larry says "Bring them all back to the lair!", and Dementor balks it because he gives the orders. However, he admits that Larry had a good idea and so tells his men the trope name.
