Tropes

  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: Rei takes command of the Honnouji Academy Last Resort System which makes the whole school a Humongous Mecha. It was meant to be used against the Life Fibers but they never got the chance.
  • Always with You: Though Senketsu is gone, his spirit lives on in Ryuko and Mako assure her of this at the end of the episode.
  • Avenging the Villain: Rei naturally is trying to do this to avenge Raygo.
  • Back for the Finale: You can see all the club captains during the graduation preparations. Heck even the spirit of Senketsu makes a brief return to help Ryuko out.
  • Badass Normal: Both the Elite Four and Ryuko fight the clones with their own talents alone rather then a Goku uniform and manage to win. While Ryuko is still a Life Fiber hybrid and wields the complete Rending Scissors, she has to fight without Senketsu.
  • Desperately Looking for a Purpose in Life: Satsuki what with Ragyo and the Life Fibers being gone now.
  • Flashback: We finally see Rei's flashback, revealing that she was a orphan child of a country in the midst of a civil war. Raygo took notice her high potency for Life Fibers and took her in, which is why she's so devoted to her.
  • Grand Finale: Pretty much the last episode of the series despite being an OVA episode.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Rei does so after Satsuki offers to let her work with her to improve the world.
  • I Hate Past Me: The Elite Four have this sentiment when they take on their doppelgangers.
  • Important Haircut: Satsuki does this at the end to symbolize that she's ready to move on from her past.
  • Mirror Match: The Elite Four against makeshift Life Fiber duplicates of themselves. Only Ryuko doesn't face one, rather she faces the clone of Satsuki.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Satsuki has spent her entire life thus far planning Ragyo's defeat. Now that the mission is done...she feels pointless, deflated. Several people comment on how she seems to lack that iron will, that stoic determination that made Satsuki Satsuki. Mako, as always, notices something else entirely.
Mako: Lady Satsuki didn't have a backlight! And she didn't clack her heel either!
    • Even though Satsuki was barefoot due to sparring practice against Sanageyama, Mako does have a good point: Satsuki is simply not herself today.
  • Post-Final Boss: Rei Hōōmaru
  • Rousing Speech: Mako gives one when the protagonists have trouble against Rei and her clones. This gives them their Heroic Second Wind naturally.
  • Summon Bigger Fish: In the final clash against Ryuko, Rei tries to have the mecha take the Naked Sun and use it as a knife again her. Ryuko responds by expanding the scissor blade to such an enormous degree that it dwarfs both Rei's blade and the mecha.
  • Talking the Monster to Death: Satsuki does this to Rei after the mecha is destroyed. Telling her that she can make more of a difference making the world better then trying to avenge Raygo.
  • Trash the Set: Honnoji Academy is completely destroyed and the island that housed it sinks into Tokyo Bay following the battle. This was actually foreshadowed in the ending of the previous episode, this episode just shows how it happened.
