Recap / Kid Cosmic S 3 E 6 Kid Cosmic And The Grand Opening Of Planet Earth

Go To

After remembering the lives of those impacted by Erodious, the Local Heroes prepare to move on. But Kid isn't ready to forget about their superhero adventures.

Tropes:

  • Astonishingly Appropriate Appearance: The baby kittens share their mom's three eyes. Tuna had three eyes when he used his future sight.
  • Babies Ever After: The alien cat from "Kid Cosmic and the Heist of Fire and Ice" is seen with three baby cats that share her and Tuna's features.
  • Back for the Finale: Carlax, Boss Fiosa, Queen Xhan and various minor characters return to dine at Mo's Oasis.
  • Bait-and-Switch: The opening of the episode has the whole cast dressed in funeral clothes, Tuna gives a speech about loss and Papa G is nowhere to be found. But then Papa G rolls up in a wheelchair, revealing he survived the previous events of the episode. The funeral is the cast paying their respects to the fallen victims of Erodius' rampage.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Fantos is defeated and Erodius has finally found peace, but at the costs of the stones' power and Papa G's immortality. The Local Heroes ultimately leave their superhero days behind, and are also forbidden from telling the world about their adventures. While still alive, Papa G has aged to such a degree that he is now confined to a wheelchair. However, the end of the episode has the cast reuniting with their old friends and customers at Mo's Oasis CafĂ©, with the implication that the restaurant will become an alien hotspot from now on.
  • Black Comedy: Boss Fiosa, who killed her lover, is seen staring hungrily at a nervous Fry and Hamburg.
  • Book Ends: The episode ends the same way the final episode of Season 1 did: With Tuna Sandwich saying "hot damn".
  • Creator Cameo: Rob Renzetti, Dave Thomas and Craig McCracken's signatures can be seen on the rejection letters that Kid gets in the mail.
  • De-power: After Erodius' restoration, the stones no longer grant their user any superpowers.
  • Due to the Dead: The episode opens with the cast holding a funeral for Erodius's victims.
  • Grand Finale: This episode is the end of Kid Cosmic and has everything wrapped up for good.
  • Lawyer-Friendly Cameo: Among the many alien ships that come to Flo's Diner at the end is the Slave 1.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall:
    • Agent Pink seemingly makes another appearance... as health and safety inspector Herring. As in a red-headed herring.
    • Kid wanted to describe their adventures in a 24-issue comic series, which is how many episodes the show had total.
  • Loophole Abuse: The Local Heroes are made to promise that they cannot tell anyone on Earth about their adventures. Instead, they decide to transmit a signal to invite aliens to visit their one specific location, which is so out of the way and in the middle of nowhere that the likelihood of anyone besides them ever finding out are slim to none.
  • Rule of Three: The Local Heroes are greeted by a government group for a third time. Though real and not as corrupt, and financially rewards them for their heroics, the leader issues a gag order.
  • The Stinger: The government helicopters arrive... But they're beamed up by a spaceship before they can go outside and confront the Local Heroes.
  • Take That!: The show makes fun of conspiracy theorists and their theories such as cellphone towers, 5G signal and the likes when the government agents reveal that humanity at large remains skeptical of what happened.
  • This Page Will Self-Destruct: After the government gives Flo a check worth 50 million dollars, they stated that said check will self destruct in 10 seconds as the funds were already transferred into her account. The check them explodes in a flash.
  • Too Good to Be True: Kid thinks they're trapped in another fantasy because he saw a woman who looked like Agent Pink of the People Protection Group. She is actually an inspector from Pacific Power and Gas in charge of finalizing Flo's dining operations.
