Go To

Dib meets the new guidance counselor, who claims to believe him about Zim. Unfortunately, it's just a well-meant scheme to earn his trust.

Tropes

  • Accidental Truth: Dib and Dwicky impersonate a pair of Plookesians, and offer Zim a bunch of superweapons in exchange for meeting them in the woods, the plan being to get video proof of Zim outside his disguise. Then some real Plookesians pick up the signal and show up, and do give Zim superweapons as a friendly gesture.
  • Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking: Coach Walrus notes that she's shown her students the horrors of war, famine, and pictures of her birth.
  • Black Comedy Burst: A rarity for a show like this that runs almost entirely off of Black Comedy, but during Dib's Hope Spot of Dwicky saying that he believes him.
    Dwicky: I believe you, Dib!
Dib: You... Yo-You believe me? ...Wait a minute. You escaped from some experiment where they hit you in the head with car doors, right?
Dwicky: (holding a picture of his head about to be crushed in an alligator's mouth) Heh heh! Almost! But, no, I really do believe you!
  • Butt-Monkey: Dib thinks he's finally found someone who believes him, only for it to turn out to be a lie. Then his attempt to expose Zim just gives Zim a bunch of weapons.
  • Continuity Nod: Dib shows Dwicky footage of Tak's ship as proof of his alien encounters.
  • Ignorant of Their Own Ignorance: Zim is so dead-set on following through with the fake Plookesian call, that even when Dib tells him the truth, he doesn't realize that it was fake.
Zim: I just saw you three hours ago. ...What are you doing here, stinkmeat?!
Dib: You fell for our trick, Zim! There are no, "Plookusians," coming to give you weapons!
(later, when the Plookesians leave and Zim has his superweapons)
Zim: Sad, little Dib! No more ally, and no more proof. ...How did you know to come here, anyway?
Dib: Zim, you moron! I told you! I arranged this meeting!
    Zim: ...Uhheaaauh.
  • Innocence Lost: Dwicky lost his childhood belief in aliens when his leg got stuck in an escalator and aliens didn't come to save him.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Dib's plot to expose Zim just gives the Invader a bunch of superweapons.
  • Noodle Implements: Zim tries to demonstrate his new plan to GIR by shoving a model of Earth into a fishbowl.
  • Noodle Incident: Whatever happened to the old counselor. Dwicky just says it was "something horrible", and we see that the man is apparently now stuck in the school's air vents.
  • Running Gag: Zim states that Dib's head is "the size of a hippo".
