Recap / Infinity Train: Seeker of Crocus: The Model Diorama Car

Go To

With the Lycanthrope, Vaillant, on his side, Professor Sycamore starts his Train journey in earnest where they find themselves in a diorama car where a war has broken out. The only key to stopping the war is a young savvy kid with a number, "195" on his hand.

Meanwhile, as he fell into despair after his missing friend broke off with a simple text, Goh Fujihachi encounters an analytical boy and a sharp-tongued girl who may change his fate for the better.

This arc provides examples of:

  • Ace Custom: Along with the Gundams used by Sei, Reiji, and Char (Tatsuya Yuuki), Yuri later built his own Gundam based on 00 Qan[T] called Qan[T] Quartz Sword and Sycamore's Gundam Exia Hope Drive, based on Yuuki's Gundam Exia Dark Matter.
  • Armor-Piercing Question: Gloria breaks through Goh's rose-tinted glasses by asking him two of these: one of them in regards to if he'll only care for Chloe if she jumped off a roof and when was the last time he listened to what she wanted.
Gloria: Would you really [be there for Chloe]? If she suddenly asks you to speak to her and begged you not to hang up for some inane reason except, "Oh my dreams are more important than my friend about to kill herself!" When was the last time you actually cared to listen to her? [...] You seriously never considered your friend's needs at all?"
  • Armor Piercing Slap: Gloria wastes no time smacking the living daylights out of Goh when he decides to get to a "bad place" if it means he can find Chloe again.
  • Bait-and-Switch: A house falls on top of Augustine, making Vaillant look in horror. Then, not only is Augustine not hurt, he's capable of lifting parts of the house off of him. Vaillant thinks that Augustine has Super-Strength...it turns out the house is made of foam.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Upon getting to the space station, Vaillant wishes for an easier way to travel. The scene then cuts to him in a wheelchair and he admits he should've worded it better.
  • Big "WHAT?!": Victor screams this when Goh reveals how Tokio was tattooed on his trip on the Train.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: Tatsuya Yuuki ends up this thanks to Clayman, forcing him to become Char, the Zeon commander.
  • Delayed Reaction: After Gloria and Victor tell Goh that Sycamore is on the Train, he repeats it...then screams how Sycamore is on the Train in shock.
  • Engineered Public Confession: Chairman Mashita ended up the victim of this thanks to Sycamore and the White Base, exposing his machinations behind the One-Year War to everyone in the car.
  • Establishing Character Moment: Yuri first appears by asking Sycamore and Vaillant which one of them is a Passenger and wastes no time introducing himself while searching the rubble for the toy soldier's amputated leg for him to fix in the next chapter.
Yuri: My name's Yuri Ichiro. And yes, I'm also stuck here on the Train. Yes, I know how my numbers work. Yes, I'm 11 and I'm not supposed to be in a war zone. And no, I don't care!
  • Foreshadowing:
    • Rimuru making a reference to stone butterflies. Those who remember Voyage of Wisteria will know what that means...
    • Gloria questions if Goh would ever care for Chloe if she decided to commit suicide. Sure enough, that question comes into play in the Harvest Moon Car.
    • Upon hearing of Tokio's torture, Gloria asks if those "psychotic reflection policemen" did it to him. We learn in the Chocolate Car as to why she'd ask of them.
  • For Want Of A Nail:
    • Goh bumps into Gloria on his way to the Cerise Institute after Chloe's goodbye message, and she stays with him even after he snaps, even giving him some In-Universe Catharsis in the form of a smash game. Because of this, Goh's in a more stable mental place, at least for the moment.
    • Eventually, Gloria's Brutal Honesty and the trope not only gives Goh an early My God, What Have I Done? moment, but their support gives him the power to take action to prove that he's truly sorry for neglecting Chloe over his Mew obsession.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Yuri attempts to do this by revealing himself as the White Base's mystery builder because he thinks they have no other option to save China. However, Vaillant takes up his place by disguising himself as a human Passenger instead to save his life.
  • Hopeless with Tech: Vaillant has a bit of trouble using Augustine's phone. Justified in this case cause he comes from what looks like a village and has never heard of a phone before.
  • Immune to Mind Control: Vailant explains that those who use illusion powers must also have strong mental defenses, thus mind control can't affect him.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: When it finally hits Goh that he hasn't listened or failed to notice Chloe's problems because he was so focused on Mew, he breaks down. Thankfully Gloria and Victor are quick to tell him he can make amends by doing something that will prove he's sorry.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • Gloria asking Goh if he'd ignore a cry of help from Chloe before she jumped off a rooftop is a reference to the Nightmare Therapy Goh went through in Blossoming Trail as a hypothetical scene showed Goh completely ignoring Chloe to chase after Mewtwo and ultimately making her decide to end her life.
    • Gloria and Victor make note of the numerous "princess things" that Chloe has (her long red hair, the dress, her "privileged" life as a Professor's daughter and how she was kidnapped onto the Infinity Train) just like the Erlking did in Blossoming Trail.
  • Shout-Out: Has a lot of Gundam references, including Gundam Build Fighters.
  • Wham Line: Rimuru muttering about stone butterflies will make readers of Voyage of Wisteria freeze.
