Go To

iFind Lewbert's Lost Love is the 6th episode of the 3nd season of iCarly.

When Carly and the gang discover Lewbert used to date a woman named Marta, they decide to reunite them, only to uncover a dark secret from the couple's past.

Meanwhile, Spencer is put on Building Watch Patrol with Chuck as his partner.

Tropes:

  • Alas, Poor Villain: After learning more about his history, and seeing it for real, even the iCarly gang feels bad for Lewbert, learning the abuse he’s been through from Marta and then seeing him relive it.
  • Big Bad Ensemble: Marta and Chuck are the primary and secondary antagonist, respectively.
  • Bland-Name Product: Spencer and Chuck bust a guy with a bag full of "Fig Nooters".
  • Cassandra Truth: Carly and Sam initially don't believe Lewbert when he tells them that Marta isn't as sweet as she appears to be.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Marta, since she accuses Carly of wanting Lewbert all to herself when Carly tries to lecture Marta she needs to respect Lewbert's personal space.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Lewbert and Marta were a happy couple at first, but after dating for five weeks, Lewbert discovered Marta's true controlling, possessive nature. He tried to break up with her, but she refused; so he took her on a cruise and escaped to shore, where he moved to Seattle, changed his last name, and got his job as the nasty doorman of today.
  • Double Standard: Abuse, Female on Male: Played with. Marta screaming at Lewbert and forcibly cutting his hair is treated as comical despite Lewbert's obvious terror over her behavior. Yes, the iCarly trio seem horrified upon watching it, but that's about it.
  • Downer Ending: In a collision of plots, just as Spencer is about to turn Chuck in to the police, Lewbert suddenly shows up and declares he was the one who 'stole' the remotes, letting Chuck get away with his crimes and giving Lewbert an excuse to escape Marta. When he finds out the sentence for the burglaries is not long enough, he is allowed to slap a police officer in the face just so that he can stay in jail a little longer, leaving Carly, Sam, Freddie, Spencer, and Marta confused.
  • Enemy Mine: Chuck invokes this with Spencer when they become building watch partners, with Chuck even impressing Spencer with how seriously he takes his job (comforting a panicking woman and holding back a man that looked suspicious). He and Spencer get along fairly well throughout the episode... until it's revealed that Chuck is the thief, and only joined the building watch because he knew that if he took his job seriously enough, no one would suspect him.
  • Foreshadowing: The video of Lewbert and Marta the iCarly trio find say it's for a two-week anniversary. This proves two things: 1. Carly, Sam, and Freddie have no reason to believe this was was a long-term relationship. 2. The video is very extreme for a two-week anniversary, showing how possessive and needy Marta is.
  • Hidden Depths: Lewbert was once a male model.
  • Idiot Ball:
    • Lewbert, who has a box of very deeply personal and sensitive items, actually labeled the box "DEEPLY PERSONAL ITEMS".
    • Spencer joined the Watch Patrol and his response to a panicking female resident who has been burglarized is to join in on her panicking!
  • If I Can't Have You…: A platonic variant for Chuck's reason to steal TV remotes: "If I can't have TV, no one can!"
  • Imagine Spot: The iCarlys imagine what their life would be like if Lewbert was nice.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: After Sam steals Lewbert's box of deeply personal items, the iCarly three go through it and get an idea of reuniting Lewbert with his ex-girlfriend Marta. Sam raises suspicions that maybe it could backfire. Carly and Freddie do so anyways... and it turns out Sam was very right. Not to mention that contacting Marta with stolen information would be a complete invasion of privacy towards Lewbert.
  • Karma Houdini:
    • Chuck goes free thanks to Lewbert taking the heat for his bizarre yet minor crime of burglarizing apartments for their TV remotes.
    • And as usual, nothing bad happens to the iCarly trio for abusing Lewbert, then invading his privacy by stealing his deeply personal items and using that to try and change his behavior.
  • Malaproper: Lewbert complains about iCarly's "unanimous" prank call. The word he's thinking of is "anonymous".
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Once the iCarly crew witnesses Marta abuse Lewbert, they express horror that they just set him back up with his abusive ex.
  • Police Are Useless: The police easily believe Lewbert taking the blame for Chuck's crimes of stealing TV remotes without any proof and fail to arrest the real culprit. Though Spencer also deserves some blame for Chuck getting away because he did nothing to protest Lewbert's lying and just stood there quietly.
  • Psycho Ex-Girlfriend: What Marta turned out to be.
  • Take That!: Sam jokes how Marta's domestic abuse towards Lewbert is more entertaining than anything shown on NBC.
  • Taking the Heat:
    • Sam made Freddie take the heat for the golf balls (that she spills all over the floor) to distract Lewbert in order to get her phone back, which she foolishly left behind in Lewbert's office.
    • Lewbert takes the blame for Chuck stealing TV remotes so he can go to jail and get away from Marta.
  • Traumatic Haircut: Marta gives one to Lewbert as the iCarlys spy on them.
  • Yandere: Marta's true nature. She seems like a sweet and friendly girlfriend on the surface. However, she is actually violent, abusive, controlling and possessive of Lewbert. When Carly is trying to convince her to leave, she makes the insane claim that Carly wants Marta gone so that she can Lewbert for herself. She then chases Carly out of her apartment with possible intentions to hurt her.
