Recap / I Carly S 02 Ep 17 I Reunite With Missy

Go To

iReunite With Missy is the 17th episode in the 2nd season of iCarly.

When Carly's old friend Missy Robinson moves back to Seattle, Carly is excited but Sam suspects something off about her. Turns out Missy is jealous of Sam, and wants to replace her as Carly's best friend.

Meanwhile, Spencer gets trapped in the basement storage area by his nemesis, Chuck.

Tropes:

  • An Aesop: Real friendship isn't about monopolizing someone, and people who do that are not as nice as they seem to be.
  • Armor-Piercing Question: After Freddie asks Sam why he should believe her about Missy:
"Because I came here. Have I ever come to you for help before?"
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Missy is this, acting sweet and innocent in front of Carly, but in reality plotting to get rid of Sam as Carly's friend. Fortunately, Carly eventually catches Missy badmouthing Sam.
  • Broken Pedestal: Missy to Carly after finding out that she sabotaged Sam.
  • Call-Back: Spencer recognizes Chuck as the same kid he met in the lobby when he filled in for Lewbert.
  • The Cameo: Josh Peck can be seen at the Groovy Smoothie, wearing a blonde wig and a pair of sunglasses.
  • Cassandra Truth: Carly doesn't believe Sam's suspicions of Missy...at first.
  • Chekhov's Gun: The "School at Sea" contest. Freddie uses it to get rid of Missy.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • Chuck returns for the first time since "iHurt Lewbert": Spencer also mentions these events.
    • One of the things Spencer offers Chuck for his release is Marvin, the ostrich he bought in "iMeet Fred".
  • Evil Gloating: Missy does this before Sam, allowing Carly to overhear and realize the truth.
  • Foreshadowing: Note how Missy conveniently places her phone behind the cup to knock Sam's phone into the Wahoo Punch when she throws it at her.
  • Goofy Print Underwear: Freddie is seen wearing blue boxers with polka dots when Sam cuts the legs off his pants
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Missy became this toward Sam, wanting to be Carly's only friend.
  • Jerkass at Your Discretion: Missy is only mean to Sam when Carly isn't around. She ends up getting caught when Carly accidentally finds her taunting Sam.
  • Motive Rant: Missy gives one to Sam, as part of her latching onto the Villain Ball. It ruins her plan because it turns Sam from questioning if Missy even was trying to get rid of her, into sure of it, and deciding to bring Freddie in to help her, which she never had to do before.
  • Noodle Incident: Several.
    • Keven and whatever reason he asks people to see his onion ring. Carly tells Missy to just say no if he asks.
    • Two with Sam, who thought Lewbert was an undercover cop when she first met him because of the size of his wart; then believing Gibby was a mermaid the previous year because he hates wearing shirts.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: When Freddie asks Sam why he should believe her about Missy, she tells him that she came to him for help.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • Spencer, when he remembers where he knows Chuck from, complete with dramatic music.
    • Missy, when she realizes Carly overheard her badmouthing Sam.
  • Pay Evil unto Evil: Missy broke Sam's cellphone on purpose and (likely insincerely) offered to buy her a new one. When Missy wins the 6-month cruise (Freddie is really the one who won it, but he gave it to Missy instead), Carly asks Sam how Missy could still compensate for her phone. Sam then reveals that she stole Missy's phone.
  • Riddle for the Ages: Spencer says that the reason he and Socko are bringing the latter's grandmother alongside two other girls to their camping trip is just in case there are bears. We never know how Socko's grandmother would deal with bears exactly.
  • Right Behind Me: Missy confirms that all the deeds Sam accused her of are true. Carly then passes behind Missy and overhears her confession, finally siding with her "meat-loving" best friend she did not believe at first.
  • Special Guest:
    • Hayley Ramm, best friend of Miranda Cosgrove, as Carly's old friend Missy Robinson.
    • Josh Peck's cameo certainly qualifies.
  • Subverted Suspicion Aesop: When strange things start going strange after Missy's arrival, Sam suspects she's trying to get rid of her, but after advice from Carly, thinks it's just out of jealousy. But it turns out Sam was right — Missy is sabotaging Sam's efforts to replace her as Carly's best friend.
  • The Vamp: Missy is a platonic version, trying to replace Sam as Carly's best friend.
  • Villain Ball: Missy tries to regain her old "best friend" position from Sam by treating her nicely around people, but indirectly attacking her in ways that force Sam away from Carly. Sam herself is unsure if Missy is actually trying to hurt her, or if she's just jealous of Missy. The evil plot is ruined when Missy gives Sam a Motive Rant for no reason. This pushes Sam to ask Freddie for help. Carly has no clue until she overhears Missy gloating about the cruise Freddie gave up to get rid of her.
  • Vomit Discretion Shot: At the end of the episode, Missy is seen throwing up over the side of the boat in a moment of karmic seasickness.
  • Water Guns and Balloons: Chuck uses a water gun to torture Spencer while he has him locked in the basement. The dialogue suggests that whatever the water gun is filled with is definitely not water.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Carly calls Missy out after learning her true nature.
  • You're Just Jealous: Carly thinks that Sam is just being jealous when she tries to warn her about Missy's true nature.
