With one half of their former employers effectively rescued, our party begins the hunt for Gundren Rockseeker in earnest. There are just a few things standing in their way: They don't know where he is, they're all Level Clown-Shoes, and also, a jelly monster.
Tropes
- Accidental Innuendo: In-Universe. After realizing that they are being followed by something that makes a “splooch” sound and a joke about Jack Off Cave, Clint says “Is it possible that we just wait and see what’s coming, pardon my choice of words”.Clint: How big is the sploog wet spot?Griffin: That’s the worst sentence I’ve ever heard you say.Clint: Hey it’s your terminology, pal.
- Ass Shove: No, the map’s not in Gundren’s butt.
- Big "NO!": Merle yells this in response to finding Gundro dead. And makes a constitution saving throw.
- Blob Monster: The party faces an ochre jelly. Then Magnus cuts in half and they face two.
- Critical Failure: Taako rolls one on a Ray of Frost, producing two ice cubes.
- Deadpan Snarker: Barry Bluejeans
- Green Aesop: Parodied. Griffin claims that the mushrooms are a metaphor for humans’ effects on the ecosystem. Justin wants to know if there are any healing properties.
- In a Single Bound: Taako finds some Loafers of Leaping and gives them to Magnus
- Jerkass: Barry’s a douche.
- Kissing Cousins: Apparently a risk dwarves, who “have like 800 cousins”, run when dating. Or it could be kinda great.
- Overly Long Gag: The guys have to make a constitution saving throw every time they speak in a field of sonoreactive mushrooms. And they don't shut up.
- The Power of Blood: Rockseeker blood can create a map to Wave Echo Cave when put on a magical paper.
- Running Gag: The first instance of the “You’ve solved my X puzzle” and elevator gags.
- Shout-Out:
- Saturday Night Live
- Slipknot
- Frozen
- The Matrix
- Spring Break
- Kenny Chesney
- Too Dumb to Live: You and your party are standing in a field of mushrooms that release a toxin when you speak. Would you, like Magnus, Merle, and Taako, continue to speak? Over and over again.
