Recap / Hamster & Gretel S1E39 "Churro's Day Out"

Go To

The Grant-Gomezes have booked an appointment with a professional high-class photographer named Raúl for their family portrait, but since no animals are allowed, Hamster and Churro have to stay home. When Churro leaves the house after Hamster carelessly leaves the front door open, Hamster pursues Churro and tries to retrieve him before the family returns.

Tropes:

  • A Day in the Limelight: Hamster usually spends some time with Gretel in the main plot, so he spends some time with Churro and try to find him.
  • An Aesop: There are times when your pet wants to spend some time with their family.
  • Artistic License: There are some rules that are a bit unrealistic at the photography studio:
    • You can choose whatever theme suits you best when taking a family portrait.
    • It's okay to complain a little if the outfits are too uncomfortable.
  • Artistic License – Space: Raúl takes a picture of the Grant-Gomez family in astronaut suits in front of a green screen without helmets, the computer shows the family in front of space without helmets and you could suffocate in space without a helmet as stated by Carolina.
  • Auto-Incorrect: Whenever Fred tells Hamster where's Churro at, auto-correct keeps messing up her messages.
  • Big "WHAT?!": The family's reaction to Raúl's steep price.
  • Free-Range Pets: Churro would be the animal equivalent of Straying Baby, as he constantly wanders about in a variety of peculiar, sometimes precarious, locations. So much so, that Hamster has trouble tracking him down if not for the tracking chip in his collar and help from Fred.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: There's a couple shots that reveal some of Raúl's rules:
  • Long List: Raul shows The Grant-Gomez family a long list of rules for a family portrait.
  • Shockingly Expensive Bill: Raul's payment for the portrait of all of them is six-hundred and nine dollars.
  • Skyward Scream: After finding out Churro went out the door, Hamster yells out Churro's name while the camera zooms out all the way to space.
  • The Perfectionist: Raúl is an overly fussy fellow who wants his clients to abide to his approximately 471 rules, which includes that he decides the themes and positions, which his clients must follow to the letter. If one theme doesn't work with his clients after all, Raúl moves on to the next idea, which the clients also must follow.
  • Undying Loyalty: When Hamster initially gives up after Churro loses his collar, he and Fred figure out that Churro wants to be with his owners more than anything, so Hamster eventually finds him outside of Raúl's studio.
