"When life gives you lemons, make lemonade!"

Airdate: October 13, 2002

"Eyes Cold Lemonade" is the seventh episode of the second (internet) season of Happy Tree Friends. This episode is particularly notable for being the most highest viewed episodenote  in the series.

Petunia and Giggles are waiting for customers at their lemonade stand. Giggles pours their only lemonade for Petunia to drink, so she has to make some more. She almost cuts her finger when she is going to cut her lemon, but other than that, nothing goes wrong with the cutting until a nail falls down on the counter. The stand's sign swings down, ripping Giggles's face off. Petunia spits her lemonade in surprise, worsening Giggles's injury. After all that, the sign is now nailed with a lot more nails. Petunia begins squeezing her lemon while the bandaged Giggles blindly tries to cut another lemon. Suddenly, another nail falls onto the counter, from the other side of the sign this time. The sign swings down, crushing Petunia's head. Her eyeball falls off and rolls towards Giggles, who uses it to make lemonade, with the process shown in detail from cutting it to squeezing it to pouring the resulting blood. She tries the bloody drink out only to dislike the taste, so she gives it some sugar before putting ice cubes into the glass. Once the drink is finished, she puts a slice of the eyeball on the rim of the glass.

"Eyes Cold Lemonade" contains examples of:

  • Artistic License – Biology: Invoked. According to the BlurB!, attempting to use a realistic look for the inside of the eyeball results in Squick, so it got toned down to resemble a grapefruit.
  • Bandaged Face: Giggles spends the rest of the episode with this after her injury.
  • Blind Mistake: Bandaged Giggles using Petunia's eyeball as ingredient, including drinking a bit of it as taste test.
  • The Cameo: The woodpecker from "Eye Candy" can be seen at the beginning of the episode.
  • Caption Humor: One of the episodes with a BlurB! version.
  • Comically Missing the Point: A nonverbal example. When Giggles is blinded by bandages wrapped around her head, she touches something she thinks is a lemon, which is actually Petunia's eyeball. She juices it, turns it into lemonade, takes a sip, grimaces at the taste...and decides it needs more sugar.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: Petunia's head is crushed by the lemonade stand's sign.
  • Everyone Has Standards: After the BlurB! relates how Kenn Navarro looked up what the inside of an eyeball looks like but went with a grapefruit look instead due to what he found being too disgusting, it adds, "See, we're not monsters!"
  • Eye Scream: This episode lovingly shows the process of making blood lemonade slowly and in horrific detail thanks to the close-up.
  • Facial Horror: Giggles's ripped-off face.
  • Lemonade Stand Plot: But of course.
  • Mood Whiplash: The pleasant beginning turns gruesome once the stand's sign swings across Giggles's face.
  • Pun-Based Title: "Ice cold lemonade".
  • Recycled Soundtrack: The music at the beginning of the episode is reused from "Sweet Ride".
  • Rule #1: Sprinkled in the BlurB! captions, all referencing what is currently going on in the episode.
  • Shout-Out: The way Petunia and Giggles lean on the lemonade stand is similar to how Charlie Brown and Linus lean on a brick wall.
  • Sincerity Mode: The "REAL FUN FACT" caption regarding the design of the eyeball's insides.
  • Spit Take: Petunia's reaction towards Giggles's injury. Right at her injured face.
  • invokedSquick: Meta example thanks to the BlurB! version.
REAL FUN FACT: Kenn wasn't sure what the inside of an eyeball should look like so he Googled it.
He was grossed out by what he found and stopped searching.
In the end, he went with a grapefruit sort of look.
  • Tear Off Your Face: Giggles's injury.
  • They Killed Kenny Again: Petunia dies.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: Giggles survives, albeit with a nasty injury.
  • Updated Re-release: One of the early episodes to be part of the "Classics Remastered" releases, which rerelease early HTF episodes in HD.
  • When Life Gives You Lemons...: This phrase is, unsurprisingly, used as the episode's moral.
