Cell and the Ginyus confront each other over their prank war.

Tropes in this Episode:

  • Awful Truth: The Ginyu Force realize that their "Captain" isn't actually Ginyu but a frog with its soul in his body. After Guldo's speech about how he already made peace with that and considers him his friend and part of the team, Recoome admits that they all sort of already knew the truth deep down but just didn't want to admit it.
  • Brought Down to Badass: Cell shows he still has his martial art skills even without access to his Ki, making him skilled enough to deliver a Curb-Stomp Battle to the Ginyus in a four-on-one fight.
  • Call-Back:
    • Poor Jeice gets punched in the face again, this time by Burter.
    • When Cell threatens to destroy the neighborhood with his self-destruct form, Guldo tells everyone he really doesn't want to sleep in a tent again. This references how the whole neighborhood was a literal campsite before the Ginyus built the homes.
  • Celestial Bureaucracy: The frog inhabiting Ginyu's body is a victim of this. King Yemma judged its soul based on the actions of its body and condemned it to HFIL. The ogres knew but didn't say anything because the Ginyus improved their behavior. That and no one in upper management wanted to take responsibility for that screw-up. The Stinger reveals that another bureaucratic screwup left Yemma without a translator when Ginyu's soul in the frog body arrived after Vegeta squished it, so he just ran it through the Soul Scrubber.
  • Country Matters: Jeice calls Cell a "Cockroach-looking C**t".
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Even without his Ki, Cell is able to crush the other Ginyus in a fight because he's got the combined fighting knowledge of some of the most skilled fighters in the galaxy. And Vegeta.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Jeice says the whole reason the Ginyus put Cell through so many pranks in the previous episode was that he came into their home and told them what to do with their own "Captain", even though as Cell immediately states, that was because their "Captain" kept trying to eat him.
  • Dramatic Irony: After learning that the Ginyu that's been with them all this time is actually a frog, the Ginyu Force assumes that the real one is still alive. The audience on the other hand is aware that Vegeta killed him shortly after Jeice.
  • Explain, Explain... Oh, Crap!: When the Ginyu Force realize that there is a frog's soul in Ginyu's body, they initially celebrate how that (falsely) means that the real Ginyu is still alive, only to quickly realize that this means the one they were trying to get back wasn't even the real one they knew and briefly consider abandoning him, before Guldo talks them out of it.
  • Fun with Acronyms: After Cell says the Ginyu Force have made him mad and (seemingly) activates his self-destruct form, Burter realizes he meant M.A.D., as in "Mutually Assured Destruction".
  • Getting Eaten Is Harmless: Sort of. Being that souls are indestructible, Frog Ginyu is physically unharmed when he comes out of Guru's mouth. However, he is still covered in stomach acids and clearly traumatized.
  • Grievous Harm with a Body: After Guldo manages to get a hold of Cell during the fight, Cell proceeds to use him as a bludgeon to take out Recoome.
  • Grew a Spine: Guldo has mostly been shown as a simple Butt-Monkey among the rest of Freeza's forces. The other Ginyus show him little to no respect, implying they don't see him as a friend and constantly interrupt him when he tries to speak. When they briefly consider abandoning Frog Ginyu though, Guldo speaks up to them all and when Jeice starts to say something, Guldo immediately shuts him up by boldly saying "I'm talking, you're listening".
  • I Lied:
    • Burter reveals to Cell that they can't make actual bombs and were just trying to bluff him. Cell finds this a relief and confesses his self-destruct mode was a bluff too.
    • A retroactive example. In the last episode before the Ginyu Force were revealed to be the ones pranking Cell, he thought it was Freeza, but when he confronted him over his trash bin, Freeza denied it and gave a Stealth Insult. Here, when Burter apologizes to Cell for the pranks and lists each one, he never mentions the trash bin, even saying they never did anything to his trash bin, revealing that Freeza was lying about it not being him.
      Cell: Ohhhh, that little bitch.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: The Ginyu Force celebrates that having Frog Ginyu in the Home means the real Ginyu must still be alive. They have no idea that Vegeta crushed the possessed frog to death after the body swap, nor that King Yemma ran the real Ginyu's soul through the Soul Scrubber.
  • My Friends... and Zoidberg: Cell states that he is made up of the DNA of the strongest fighters in the world... And Vegeta.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: After Burter and Cell both confess to bluffing after the standoff, Burter remarks that Cell and the Ginyus aren't so different after all.
  • Oh, Crap!: The Ogres are panicking that someone is coming to visit. The ending suggests that it's King Cold.
  • Pet the Dog:
    • When Guldo makes a plea on behalf of Frog Ginyu, the rest of the team, who usually treat Guldo like crap, actually comes around to his position, with Burter even rubbing Guldo's head out of appreciation.
    • Cell lets Frog Ginyu go after seeing just how much he meant to the rest of the Ginyus.
  • Portmanteau: Parodied. Recoome attempts to combine "Frog" and "Fraud", but the end result still ends up sounding like "Fraud".
  • Right for the Wrong Reasons: When the Ginyu Force state Guldo planted bombs in Cell's house and threaten to blow it up if he doesn't return Frog Ginyu, Cell calls their bluff on the grounds that if they did blow up his house they would be punished by having to rebuild it. It turns out he was right about them bluffing, but they were actually lying about having bombs at all, since Burter reveals they can't make actual bombs in the first place.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: The Ginyu Force reveal that they were lying about planting bombs in Cell's house because they had no way of getting the materials to make any. Much like in Episode 2 where Raditz pointed out the Ogres wouldn't give them tools that could be used to remove the Power Limiter bracelets, so there's no way they would be allowed access to dangerous materials like that.
  • Swallowed Whole: Cell reveals that he had Guru eat Frog Ginyu to hide him. The frog is undeniably traumatized by the experience once he gets out.
  • Taking You with Me: Both Cell and the Ginyus attempt this between threatening to blow up Cell's home and the entire neighborhood. Once the ogres calm everything down, they admit that they were both bluffing.
  • Team Pet: The Ginyus come to accept Frog Ginyu as a member of the team after a heartfelt plea by Guldo.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: Guldo gets to make a heartfelt speech about his love for the Captain and how the others are his friends and the others agree.
  • Waxing Lyrical: Guldo refers to Frog Ginyu as a "Bug eyed, two horned, leaping purple people eater."
  • Wham Shot: The final scene before The Stinger has King Cold return, appearing in Freeza's house.

Cell vs. the Ginyu Force

Even with all of his Ki restricted and unable to use the power he had while alive, Cell still has the combined knowledge of Z-Fighters to avoid being a pushover.

How well does it match the trope?
