Cell's having a pretty rough day, but who's responsible?

Original Airdate: March 30, 2022

Tropes in this Episode:

  • Butt-Monkey:
    • Cell spends the whole episode being subjected to the Ginyu's pranks. It goes from frustrating inconveniences to physical harm.
    • Guru is also this to a lesser extent. He is tipped over like a cow (or Space Cow) and spends the rest of the episode laying on the floor with Cell ignoring him despite his protests.
  • Call-Back:
    • The message announcing that Ginyu has been taken also has a picture of a butt, just like the message Vegeta left for Freeza when the Prince stole the Dragonballs in the Namek Saga.
    • In episode 3 of HFIL, it was established that with all the ki-blockers in place, even everyone in HFIL working together couldn't lift Guru unless it was with a forklift. When trying to raise Guru in this episode, Raditz complains that he needs that forklift.
    • Once again, the Space "X" gag of putting "Space" in front of normal things, last seen in the Namek Saga (such as Space Duck, Spacebook, and Space Mexico) comes back, this time as a "Space Cow" (mentioned by both Freeza and Raditz). Cell refuses to believe either of them.
    • Guldo's Time Stands Still powers were previously seen in the Namek Saga, and in episode 3 of HFIL (to get the ball).
    • Freeza is sick of people screaming his name, claiming that even dead he can't escape it. We saw Bardock do this in the Bardock special.
  • Chekhov's Gun: At the start of the episode, Jeice is complaining at the sharing circle that the Captain looks so sad and miserable now that he's on a leash. It later turns out that all of the pranking this episode was as a direct result of Cell threatening to complain about Ginyu constantly attacking him.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: A hypocritical, Played for Laughs example. Of all people, Freeza is disgusted with Cell when he sees him covered in white paint (referred to as "Whiteface").
  • Forced Meme: Freeza is still trying to push "bussy" to tease Cell. Cell still has no clue what it means.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: The picture of a butt on Ginyu's Ransom Note is green, and has the pink oval bits seen on Namekian muscles.
  • Humiliation Conga: Cell goes through a lot with the Ginyu Force's pranks.
  • Internal Reveal: Cell learns about Guldo's time stopping ability from Raditz. Before that, he just assumed that Guldo knew how to teleport like Goku.
  • Mundane Utility: Guldo's power to stop time is used... to pull pranks on Cell.
  • No-Respect Guy: Once more, poor Guldo.
  • Not Me This Time: Cell initially thinks it’s Freeza behind the pranks, but it turns out that it’s actually the Ginyus.
  • Outside-Context Problem: Ki is indeed blocked with everyone in HFIL (save the Ogres), but Guldo's Time Stands Still powers are apparently something not related to that. Raditz speculates that it's psychic in nature, while Guru guesses it's magic.
  • Running Gag:
    • The Cell Household, Ginyu Household and Freeza Household all have a Chore Wheel that someone complains is useless throughout the episode.
    • Raditz and Cell leaving Guru on the floor of the garage and Guru becoming increasingly annoyed that they aren't helping him.
  • Shout-Out: When Cell recruits Guru to prank back the Ginyus, Guru replies "You sonuvabitch... I'm in."
  • Tempting Fate: Once Cell finds out the Ginyus were pranking him, Burter suggests they tone down the pranks before it escalates any further... only for it to turn out that Cell already kidnapped their "mascot" (Ginyu).
  • Time Stands Still: Guldo's signature powerset. It's revealed that he's the one who's been doing all the pranks thanks to his ability to stop time, and that the ki blockers don't stop him from doing it. In addition, it's the primary reason he's on the Ginyu Force to begin with.
