Only You in All the World

Drusilla lived in Port Breeze, born from a pair of wealthy merchants, all with the belief that she's special and could be anything she wants as long as she sets her mind on it. Now, she's part of the Grandcypher looking for her "lost" pet bird, filled with crewmates with much more accomplishments than she ever expect, crushing her self-esteem.

One day, Drusilla finds herself at the whims of a monster, only to be saved by a cheery girl who sees her as special. As the two grow close, the truth behind the girl's past and her connection to the forest and the town nearby unravels...

Tropes

  • The Aloner: Every solacebringer, Morimori being one of them, is forced upon this role since childhood in order to appease Erbsu and protect Omelas from calamity monsters, with Nerine being the only other companion to talk to.
  • Connected All Along: Morimori and the current town elder are actually childhood friends, which end up playing a key role on Omelas accepting their dark past.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Drusilla is the focal character for this event.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: Chapter six is focused on Drusilla putting in her efforts on finding Nerine and getting the town to overcome its dark past. End result is that Nerine has become a normal girl and the town now capable of doing cheerful gatherings. The event's true ending is fittingly called "Happily Ever After".
  • Forced into Evil: While the people of Omelas believe in the town custom, a few equally believe that it did nothing to stop the town's doom. Even the town elder breaks down admitting that he spent much of his life for naught and is unable to break the cycle on his own.
  • Kid Has a Point: The first person the crew learns about Omelas's dark secret comes from a kid, knowing that the grownups being mum about it puts him off. He even suggests the idea of turning the town's custom from a gloomy to a more cheerful one as the town comes to terms with its past.
  • Senseless Sacrifice: While Erbsu sacrificed herself to protect the town, the town placed the blame on the village elder at the time, corrupting her into the evil spirit as she is known and effectively continuing the attack to this day.
  • Survivor Guilt: The town elder expresses his regret of not being chosen as the solacebringer instead of his friend when he admits the town custom isn't doing anything to save themselves from doom. Much to his relief, it becomes subverted when he finds out said friend, Morimori, is still alive to this day.
  • Town with a Dark Secret: The town of Omelas is attacked by calamity monsters, stated to be born from Erbsu's loneliness. One child is designated as a solacebringer, who is forced to live the rest of their lives with her alone to appease said loneliness.
  • Ungrateful Townsfolk: Erbsu's corruption into an evil spirit is caused by the town shaming the elder to death, making her sacrifice pointless and forgotten by time.
