The Time a 37-Year-Old Former Imperial Soldier Expanded His Horizons through the Experience That Is Saunas

With his child born, Deliford expects himself to settle down with his new life, until word about his passion for saunas reached to a magazine and landed him an unexpected job as a sauna columnist.

While the pay is satisfactory and his reviews being well popular, he later finds himself at a dilemma when his next article is about one topic he finds embarrassing to do, an article targeted towards younger women. Just how is Deliford going to break the ice?

Tropes

  • Awesome, but Impractical: Smoke saunas distributes heat much better than your modern sauna and the soot enhances the aroma and cleanliness... after preparing it for half a day. The impracticality is enough for Deliford to conclude that he couldn't find any good ideas from smoke saunas and is the reason why they're a dying tradition, even in the origins of Suomi Island.
  • Call-Back: Besides it being a continuation of A 37-Year-Old's Sauna Awakening, there's a few things mentioned back when Deliford appeared in Zodiacamp.
    • Vyrn wonders why Deliford is shy to ask younger women when he got along fine with the Divine Generals.
    • Deliford wrote his experiences in one of his articles. It didn't take long for Sierokarte to know that Deliford wrote it due to being at the same place and time.
  • Character Check: Deliford's introduction has him bring up his past health, family, and job issues and how the introduction of saunas turned all of that around.
  • Connected All Along: At the end of the event, it turns out the czar and the owner of Unite and Sauna are both mother and son.
  • A Day in the Limelight: While Deliford has the main focus again for this event, a smaller second limelight is placed on Cupitan, Meg, Tabina, and Tikoh with the event being their first sauna experience and is Deliford's intended focus group.
  • Don't Try This at Home: In the lodge (which is cramp), Eso splashes water at the hot stones, causing it to splatter everywhere. The only advice he gives to Deliford about this is to fight it through. A disclaimer pops up stating that doing this is highly dangerous and the two had special training to make it safe.
  • Mistaken for Gay: Mari overhears Deliford explaining Sandalphon about not wearing a swimsuit, incorrectly assuming Deliford likes him. On the plus side, this means Deliford no longer has to worry about Mari thinking he has feelings for Meg.
  • Overly Long Name: The full name of this event, The Time a 37-Year-Old Former Imperial Soldier Expanded His Horizons through the Experience That Is Saunas, clocks in at 106 characters long.
  • Secret-Keeper: Because Deliford considers his writing gig as an Embarrassing Hobby, the only people that knew from the start were his wife, Yngwie, and the Captain. General interest of saunas and word about his plans to renovate Unite and Sauna spreading by eventually leads to everyone knowing about it anyway.
  • Stunned Silence: Everyone immediately went silent when Tikoh, who is a doctor, states that she is unable to see any health benefits from saunas. This is mainly due to her not being experienced with them, causing the crew to suggest her to try it and hopefully change her mind.
  • Take That, Audience!: Much of this event is a jab on the more competitive players of the game with the sauna needing to be saved is filled with regulars quite well into their age and resistant to change (the czar of the sauna being the worst out of all of them), the grueling conditions of the sauna being too difficult for newcomers to enjoy, and the sauna itself being named Unite and Saunanote  with another sauna having troubles being named Sauna Sandboxnote . This pisses off the audience as they point out how hypocritical Cygames is with their treatment of the Unite and Fight events, forcing them to change the quest name to be less insulting.
  • Title Drop: Downplayed. While researching ideas on renovating Unite and Sauna, Deliford learns that his favorite sauna experience wouldn't appeal to everyone like Pholia and Eso's distaste of dark and cramped spaces, stating he needs to "expand his horizons" to get it right.
