  • Alternative Character Interpretation: In-universe, Lorelai and Rory have decided that The Adventures of Pippi Longstocking is a surrealist movie with bizarre cinematography, atonal singing, and stilted delivery.
  • An Arm and a Leg: Kyle lost his hand in the Navy and wear a prosthetic.
  • Chick Magnet: Kyle's hook prosthetic works as this.
  • Compliment Backfire: It takes some explaining for Luke to understand that Jojo's food is better than his because it's worse, at least on BWR movie night.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • Richard is reading Proust, reminding Lorelai of when she tried to read Proust in season one.
    • Rory reminds Dean and Luke that they were on a softball team together in season one.
  • Crazy-Prepared: Invoked. Emily wants Lorelai to factor in an aneurism and write her panic room code down.
  • Creator Cameo: Producer Christy O'Keefe as Sarah the maid.
  • Dude, Not Funny!: A woman calls town selectman Jackson to complain about her daughter falling off playground equipment, Jackson thinks it sounds like Slapstick. The woman fails to be amused.
  • Embarrassing Nickname: The other Richard at Richard's office is nicknamed Dickie.
  • Ho Yay: In-universe, Lorelai makes jokes about Richard and his "special friend" (valet) Robert.
  • Irony:
    • Zach's dentist told him he brushes too hard, which Lane finds odd because when you're a kid they tell you to really go at it.
    • Emily makes a big deal out of Lorelai writing down her secret panic room code, which turns out to be 1-1-1-1-1.
  • My Beloved Smother: Invoked. Lorelai and her father are spending time with each other without Emily, so when Richard makes a comment that would usually prompt Emily to make a snide remark about Lorelai's love life, Lorelai feels the vacuum and fills it with a snide remark about her own love life.
  • Papa Wolf: Luke's paternal instincts take over on the double date.
  • Passive-Aggressive Kombat: Luke and Dean over the bop-it.
  • Plot Hole: Luke finds it odd that businesses in town accept Pippi's gold coins as payment.
  • Product Placement: The Bop-It.
  • Self-Deprecation: Lorelai feels she has to fill the criticism vacuum left by her mother with this.

    • It took Richard 36 years to finish Decline And Fall Of The Roman Empire.
    • Emily has never heard of Panic Room with Jodie Foster.
    • Suge Knight could come for tea, making Emily's panic room's ability to withstand 9mm shells useful.
    • The Barbi Twins were over cuz Richard and Robert have an Auto Focus thing going on.
    • Lorelai finds her old Petunia Pig plate.
    • Richard has a glitter-vest out of a Siegfried and Roy show.
    • Zach thinks Brian is going too fast, like Kid Flash.
    • Brian gives his song-in-progress the working title "Brian's Song", and it reminds Zach of the Billy Dee Williams movie, Brian's Song.
    • Kyle has a big poster of Bob Dylan.
    • Kyle's prosthetic gives him a "Captain Hook" thing.
    • When Rory says that the less you tell grandma the better.
    • Richard is reading Marcel Proust.
    • Lorelai wonders if the expression "leave someone in a lurch" comes from Lurch from The Addams Family.
    • The movie theatre was supposed to show Cool Hand Luke but the first reel inexplicably caught fire.
    • Kirk must say he does a wicked George Kennedy
    • Kirk's reenactment totally ruined Last Tango in Paris for Lorelai.
    • Pippi Longstocking. Luke figures it's a kid's movie, but Lorelai and Rory insist it's a Classic surrealist masterpiece.
    • George Lucas still has cooler special effects.
    • Dances with Wolves makes Zach cry.
    • Zach hopes Lane wasn't expecting Officer and a Gentleman, as it takes him a while to process things.
  • So Bad, It's Good: In-universe, subverted with food from Jojo's. It starts out so bad it doesn't get worse no matter how long you let it sit.
  • Stylistic Suck: Lorelai and Rory decide to see the bad acting and "bizarre cinematography" in Pippi Longstocking as this.
  • Title Drop: The title is Lorelai's response when she finds out that Luke has no idea who or what Pippi Longstocking is.
  • Verbal Backspace:
    • Emily finds Richard's glitter vest and gets upset thinking about where he would wear it. Lorelai tries to comfort her saying there's lots of places he could be wearing that. Emily defies her to name one. Lorelai replies that she's at a loss.
    • When Emily gets mad at her for saying her panic room code out loud, Lorelai tries to make it sound like she was actually saying "we won won won won won".
