Recap / Generator Rex S 1 E 11 Operation Wingman

Go To

Rex: Whoa. I'm save-the-world-from-E.V.O.s guy, not go-on-pity-dates guy. It's bad enough I've still got death bunny after me.
Noah: Bunny?
Rex: Hey, this is serious. It sneaks up on you when you least expect it, okay? I mean look at me!
Noah: You'd rather hide from a bunny... than go out on a date with a girl?

Rex finds himself menaced by an EVO rabbit. To make matters worse, Noah asks him to be his wingman, which involves going out with a girl who brings misfortune to her dates...

  • Actor Allusion:
    • In "Operation: Wingman". Noah, who is played by Fred Savage, goes to prom with Claire, a girl voiced by Danica McKellar, who is well-known for playing Savage's love interest Winnie Cooper in The Wonder Years.
    • Annie's haircut was similar to her voice actress Felicia Day haircut at that time.
  • Achievements in Ignorance: Annie manages to activate the armored car's weapons just by pressing buttons. Noah and Claire are befuddled when they try it.
  • Bait-and-Switch: When Noah calls Rex for help, he's seen cowering from a person-shaped shadow. It turns out to be his prom suit.
  • The Chew Toy: Rex, from the moment he meets the EVO rabbit, becomes target practice for the universe. Meeting Annie didn't help.
  • Comically Missing the Point: When Annie asks Rex if he has a girlfriend, he replies that the girl he likes is in league with an evil dictator who wants him dead. Annie assumes he means the girl in question has a Boyfriend-Blocking Dad.
  • Hair-Raising Hare: The rabbit EVO is a six-legged beast the size of a van with teeth that can tear through metal. It's also extremely persistent in its pursuit of Rex.
  • Lethal Klutz: Annie is known as the "blonde widow" because her clumsiness causes the boys she goes out with to get injured. Rex finds this out when she accidentally locks him in the limo and removes the parking brake, causing the limo to go off a cliff with Rex still inside, followed by tripping and pushing him off the cliff when she is running to see if he is okay. She also sets a restaurant on fire during the episode through an unexplained chain of events that began with her sneezing.
  • Never Say "Die": Annie explicitly-but-not-nearly-so is mentioned to have gotten people killed when Noah says that boys she has dated were put in the hospital and, after a split second's hesitation, adds "…and worse".
  • Noodle Incident:
    • Annie broke her hand by texting while riding a motorcycle. On a half pipe.
    • Rex returns to the restaurant to finds the fire department on hand. Noah's explanation is "Annie sneezed."
  • Only Sane Man: Claire behaves rationally and calmly throughout the events of this episode.
  • Shout-Out: A Scottish Providence soldier describes the EVO rabbit in a manner reminiscent of the Killer Rabbit of Caerbannog.
  • Stab the Scorpion: Annie thinks she's doing this when she uses a fork to get something out of Rex's ear. It was just his communicator.
  • Super-Persistent Predator: The rabbit EVO has it out for Rex, and spends an entire week chasing Rex, pouncing on him when he least expects it and running away if Rex gets the upper hand.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: Noah's reaction to Rex's replacement for the limo being one of Providence's armored cars.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Even after the incident with the limo, Annie somehow manages to top herself by firing a missile at Rex while retrieving her purse from the armored car. Rex catches the missile, wrecking a fast food joint in the process, but Annie remains oblivious, and throws a tube of stain remover at him, causing the missile to explode in his face.
  • Unluckily Lucky: Rex manages to weaponize Annie's curse when he tell her to use a missile launcher on the rabbit EVO, knowing she'll lock onto him instead, then guides the missile into the intended target. The rabbit EVO does not survive.

The Blonde Widow

Annie's thoughtless clumsiness causes bodily harm to any boy she goes out with. Rex finds this out after she triggers an accident that would have killed a normal boy.
